Seasonal Storyline in Destiny 2 Confuses Infrequent Players

1 min read 0 1

Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance has been leaving many players scratching their heads due to its convoluted storytelling. The arc is the beginning of Lightfall. It kicked off in February, bringing sweeping changes to the game, including an engaging new narrative. However, people who miss a week or two of gameplay are in for a rude awakening. They will encounter a noticeable flaw in the storyline that can cause confusion and disrupt the game’s immersion.

With each passing week, a new chapter is introduced to the story. But if anyone doesn’t constantly keep up for whatever reason, it’s easy to get lost in the maze of twists and turns. According to a post by Redditor Reicomatricks, attempting to catch up on all the content in one go can lead to strange inconsistencies. For instance, Guardians might meet Devrim Kay at The Farm and then encounter Mara Sov at The Helm, even though she is standing near Kay at The Farm. The quests then require players to return to The Farm to meet Amanda Holliday. But then, as they head to The Helm, they will meet the same NPC to have a completely different conversation.

Bungie’s design choices for the Season of Defiance storyline are causing unintended consequences. The flaw stems from how the developer expects gamers to progress through the story as new content is added. Those who miss out on weeks of gameplay end up with a jarring and unnatural experience as they try to catch up with the story and complete quests in a haphazard manner.

Season 20 still has several weeks left. Thus, Guardians who haven’t had a chance to delve into the content may find themselves wandering aimlessly in search of important story beats. The Farm and The Helm are key locations in the Season of Defiance narrative. So it’s highly likely that Guardians will have to revisit these areas again in future weekly drops.

The flaw in the Season of Defiance’s storyline may not impact everyone. But for those who experience it, it can be a disorienting and vexing experience that takes away from the game’s overall narrative flow. However, as of now, fans can only hope that Bungie will soon take action to rectify the issue.
