The significant decline in the player count started this year. At first, The Final Shape expansion brought players back, but a few months later, it started to drop again. The game did see some low seasons, but it was never this bad, with the player count hanging around 20k on PC, according to Steam charts.
Why did the Destiny 2 player count hit an all-time low
Several issues have contributed to the game’s current state, from repetitive gameplay to new competition. Many players feel Destiny 2’s seasonal content has become stale. The same loops and grinds that once hooked players now drive them away.
Persistent technical problems are another reason for the exodus. Bugs, glitches, and server issues have soured the experience, even for long-time fans. The game has become unplayable with even seasonal activities broken due to bugs.
With the release of exciting titles like Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals, players are moving to fresh experiences. Destiny doesn’t have anything new to keep the players logging back.
Destiny 2 Fireteams problem
With fewer players logging in, forming groups for endgame activities has become a daunting task. Players report waiting far longer to find matches. Even with tools like in-game Fireteam Finder and Discord, finding teammates for raids and dungeons is increasingly difficult. And the community tools meant to help often backfire, with many posts requiring “experienced players only.” This leaves newer players feeling excluded and unwelcome.
Community Divided Over Seasonal Events
The Dawning event, meant to bring holiday cheer, has instead highlighted deeper issues. As there is nothing new about the event players are not interested in the grind anymore, with the rewards not being particularly interesting too.
Many Guardians suggest adding more engaging seasonal activities, like themed PvP modes or new event-specific rewards, to breathe life into the experience.
Destiny 2’s community remains hopeful. Many players believe upcoming content, such as the teased Apollo expansion, could bring back excitement and rebuild the player base.

I still log in every day (almost). I mainly play pvp. I love trials but the weapons this season aren’t my favorite. I love weapon crafting because my RNG is awful!
fans arent staying fans. haven’t played for 2 years. I feel great having all this time to do something i like.
I’ve played this game for years and all I get is if you want to do a raid or dungeon you have to have experience all these assholes out there all they’re interested in is stats nobody wants to help anyone anymore and it’s full of cheater’s and so TOXIC.

I hear you but some of that blame goes on the new players themselves. I’m willing to help new players but often times they jump into the fireteam without comms and are only interested in add clear and can’t be bothered to watch a short video of mechanics before trying end game content.
well I’m a solo player and nasty and rude players keep me from doing raids and PVP it’s a game so I don’t waste my time on those activities why to heard a grown ass person acting like a small child and matchmaking all those players out there saying being picky about what players they want to play with stop complaining bout long waiting time for activities if you posting stuff like that it’s more new players then old players left so stop being asshole and teach new players how to complete raids and other activities so overall I don’t care to play any of destiny 2 endgames activities and I’m not the only players feel like me so rude and nasty players are messing up the fun in destiny2.
