Despite being labeled a Hand Cannon, its behavior is much closer to a sawed-off shotgun, making it deadly at close range in both PvE and PvP.
What sets Aureus Neutralizer apart is its explosive burst damage potential. It releases a tight spread of pellets that can shred enemies in an instant, especially with the right perks. In PvE, Vorpal Weapon and One-Two Punch make for an ideal God Roll. This combo allows for insane boss melting potential, especially when paired with synergies like the Techsec Set or Illegally Modified Holster on Hunters using Lucky Pants. Titans also benefit from the weapon’s up-close strength by combining Threat Detector and One-Two Punch with their melee abilities.
PvE-focused players will want to build around barrels like Full Choke or Barrel Shroud, which tighten the spread and boost damage on single targets. PvP is where Antedate truly shines. Thanks to a well-balanced stat profile and strong perk selection, it feels competitive right out of the gate. With perks like Rangefinder in the third column and Target Lock in the fourth, Antedate becomes a deadly option for duels and aggressive play. One saving grace is the Tenacity origin trait, which boosts damage after final blows when surrounded, lasting until death. It complements Phoneutria’s close-quarters nature.
In Crucible, Phoneutria Fera faces heavy competition from standard shotguns and hand cannons. While its spread-shot mechanic can secure quick kills, its short range and slow handling can be liabilities. The key to success lies in maximizing range and capitalizing on burst windows.
Slideshot is essential, offering partial reload, stability, and range boosts mid-fight: ideal for opening duels. Barrel Constrictor, a new perk that narrows pellet spread after final blows, helps secure follow-ups but only triggers post-kill. In the final column, Target Lock is absent, so your best options are One-Two Punch for the shotgun-melee combo or Frenzy for consistent stat boosts during extended fights. Swashbuckler is a third option but requires streaks to be truly effective.
