How to find Xur Video Guide

For all Guardians in need to find out where Xur is right now, how long he’ll be live, and what items are available for purchase, we’ve created this ultimate Xur tracker to address all your burning questions and make your experience with Destiny’s most mysterious vendor a lot easier and much more pleasant.

At the top of the page you can see exactly where to find Xur this week and how long he’ll stay on the spot. In case it’s already his off-hours, the timer will show when Xur will be back, and once he arrives, we’ll update all the info.

For those looking for an insight on how to find Xur, there are video guides and detailed maps of his spawn locations. There’s also a full-on section where you can find everything Xur’s selling today or was selling when he last performed his vending duties. A thorough guide posted down below will tell you everything you need to know about Xur in Destiny 2, and if there are any questions left, feel free to check out the FAQ section at the bottom of the page.

Xur’s shift goes from Friday to Tuesday, having him stick around in Destiny 2 for the weekend until reset.

Xur’s arrival is slated for Friday, 10 a.m. PDT (12 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. GMT) every week.

Once the weekly reset hits on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PDT (12 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. GMT), Xur is out of sight.

As we’ve said before, Xur’s wares always include random-rolled Exotic and Legendary gear (armor pieces and weapons), but there’s also a Xur Destiny 2 Exotic Engram on sale every time he comes back to trade.

No cases of Xur not showing up have been officially reported in Destiny 2 so far. The merchant is always on time, as sure as the sun rises in the morning. In the original Destiny, though, Xur sometimes showed up late due to in-game time bugs or could even spawn at the wrong place, sending players to roam all Xur locations to find the needed one. Yeah, those were the times. If Xur is not showing up for you in D2, you’re probably at the wrong location. Keep track of Xur’s movements via our website, and you’ll always know where to find him.

The Unixursal Voyager ship is indeed Xur’s ship, which is available in the Dares of Eternity event. You need to obtain seven Treasure Keys and level up your reputation with Xur to level 16 in order to unlock it.

No one really knows where Starhorse came from, but it definitely has something to do with the Nine. Along with Xur, the creature hosts Destiny 2’s Dares of Eternity, which is part of Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Pack. While it doesn’t look like the horse actually belongs to Xur, they certainly do have a connection as he’s the only one who understands it.

To better understand who Destiny 2’s Xur is and how he came to be, you first need to learn about the Nine.

The Nine are primordial gods from the Unknown Space who are unable to interact with our universe but still keep watching it from afar. They are powerful just as much as they are vulnerable: dependent on our worlds, they are, in fact, matter, so if our worlds cease to exist, so will the Nine. They cannot enter our plane of existence – only communicate with us, but never actually affect or inhabit the physical realm – so their primary goal has always been to gain corporeal embodiment and enter our world.

Their first attempt to do so is tied to the Ahamkara – wish-granting draconic creatures that the Nine tried to use to transform themselves into flesh. Later, the wish-dragons were hunted down to near extinction, so the Nine were pushed to find other ways to execute their plan. That’s when Xur was created.

The Nine believed that the Traveler’s Light was the only thing left that could help them access our physical realm. With two opposing factions having arisen within the Nine, each now pursues its own goal. One part of the Nine even assisted Ghaul in his invasion; the other is responsible for creating Xur and sending him to the Tower as their loyal agent.

The purpose of Xur’s existence is to study the Light and Guardians, assisting and protecting them as much as he can. A Jovian by origin, Xur serves the Nine, claiming to have no will of his own. Crippled by Orin when her investigation of Sjur Eido’s death led her to the Nine, Xur was left with a hunch and a limp as the result of his spine having been broken by a war hammer. Always dressed in a hooded cloak, Xur has glowing yellow eyes and what looks like tendrils or tiny tentacles where his face should be, but no one has actually seen him with the hood off, so his true appearance still remains a mystery.

According to the lore, Xur comes and goes following planetary alignments, so he’s not always in the game, teleporting to one of his usual locations only when the time is ripe.

Friday to Tuesday, when Xur is available he brings along “the gifts of the Nine” – a whole bunch of goodies for you to choose from. Having debuted in Destiny, he was mostly dealing Exotic items and accepted Strange Coins as currency. Does Xur still sell Exotics in the game’s sequel? Yes, he does! His arsenal now includes Exotic and Legendary armor and weapons with random rolls. The main currencies you need to buy from Xur are Legendary Shards and Glimmer, but some of his exotic wares require spending Ascendant Shards and Exotic Cyphers as well.

Keep in mind that Xur’s locations and items change weekly, meaning he always comes back to a new place with new items in his bag. Most of his offerings are pretty decent, but you never know what stats they’re gonna have, which makes our Jovian friend even more popular with Guardians. If you check on Xur god rolls this week and nothing looks worth spending your resources on, just come back next weekend and try your luck with the refreshed roster. This is the beauty of vendors’ RNG-based inventory, right?

A rolling stone of a vendor, Xur shows up all over the map, but his usual dwelling places can be narrowed down to the following spots:

  • Hangar (Xur’s Tower location)
  • Winding Cove (EDZ location)
  • Watcher’s Grave (Xur’s Destiny 2 Nessus location)

Back in the pre-Beyond Light days, Xur used to sell his goodies on Titan and IO as well, but the planets entered the DCV and have been indefinitely off-limits ever since, so for now we’re down to only three Destiny 2 Xur spawn locations. However, Bungie never intended for this to be permanent and planned right from the start to bring the vaulted content back to the game little by little. Lots of retired activities and items have already returned, so there’s a good chance we’ll see Xur in his older favorite spots again someday. Maybe even next season, who knows?

To find out where Xur is at today, check in with our tracker.

Destiny 2 is not immune to bugs and glitches, and while most of them are fun-ruining and annoying, there are some that you can actually use to your benefit.

When it comes to our cloaky buddy, one of the most well-known glitches happened a while ago and allowed players to access Xur’s legendary items ahead of time.

To make it work, you simply had to travel to Xur’s location shortly before he’d clock out of his job, then stay in the instance and wait for the reset. A few second wait usually did the trick: Exotics were gone, but the Legendary roster got refreshed, revealing weapons that would be on sale the following weekend. Players also referred to it as “holding Xur hostage,” because as long as there were people in the instance, other Guardians could join by invitation and get hold of the glitched weaponry even if they logged in after the Destiny 2 Xur reset.

That was just one example of Xur glitching, but over the years, players have reported other occasions when Xur was brought back earlier than usual, doubled or even tripled the loot he sold, or offered the same Legendaries but with different rolls way past his usual departure time.

If there ever are any issues with our traveling merchant again, we’ll let you know in the “Xur Glitch Today” section, so that you can hop on to the glitched instance and pick up some sweet Xur loot this week ahead of schedule.
