Controversy Erupts over Diablo IV's Hardcore Mode

Diablo IV’s Hardcore Mode has stirred up a storm of discontent among passionate fans.

With only days away from the release of Diablo IV, Blizzard has decided to host a Hardcore contest. The main rule is simple, if your character dies even one, it will be counted as a permanent death. Thus, you will no longer be able to use said character ever again, no matter how much power you have managed to amass.

The contest also presents fans with a rare opportunity. The first 1,000 players to attain level 100 in Hardcore Mode will have their names forever engraved on a statue of Lilith in real life. However, since the contest is open to everyone, those who participated in the Open Beta and Server Slam also have a chance to compete for a spot in the top 1,000. Thus, raising concerns that these individuals may have an unfair advantage.

Blizzard reassured fans that all pre-release progress would be reset. But critics argued that prior knowledge of the game would still grant an advantage. After all, they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the game before. Although they couldn’t have experienced the whole game, they will still be off to a much stronger head start. While that, new players will have to spend more time navigating their way through a brand-new world.

In addition, the contest also faced criticism on various other fronts. Some people with jobs, more responsibilities, or limited gaming time would struggle to compete. Others expressed fears of a potential shift towards pay-to-win mechanics. There were even objections raised about the need to claim the accomplishment via Twitter. So, even if players successfully secure a place among the first 1,000, failing to claim their spot on Twitter would result in their exclusion from the top 1,000 as well.

Discussions about said matter have been dominating many social media platforms.

In a reassuring message to fans, Blizzard actually included in the rule since the beginning that individuals who had experienced the game before would not be eligible to participate in the contest. So, players can rest assured that they are in for a balanced competition. Thus, most responses expressed satisfaction with this clarification. But some content creators were disappointed as they couldn’t participate anymore.

Diablo IV’s early access is set to kick off on June 1, followed closely by its full release on June 6. In case you missed it, the game is 100% recommended by critics thus far. After all, Diablo IV has undeniably showcased a winning formula. It boasts an enthralling storyline, immersive gameplay, and seamless performance across many platforms. So, prepare to meet all your expectations and more!
