Liberation of Undermine live coverage

  • RWF day one, March 5, 1 PM to 7 PM recap.

    • Melee Mechanics defeated the first boss Vexie and the Geargrinders in only 2 pulls. Congratulation to Melee Mechanics on claiming this world first.
      • While most guilds focused on Normal and Heroic difficulties, Melee Mechanics jumped straight into Mythic as soon as the servers went live.
    • Humble claimed World Second on Vexie after. Six hours later after some gearing, Humble accomplished this feat!
    • Diva claimed World Third one hour later. That still an incredible feat that is worth noting, congratulations on making history!
      • Diva claimed this hard victory on 12 pull, doing 7% several times.
    • Chrome King Gallywix was defeated on Normal.
      • Chrome King Gallywix has been defeated on Normal difficulty, revealing the long-awaited raid cutscene that concludes the Undermine storyline.
    • EU joins the RWF. Method and Echo have joined the raid after short maintenance.
      • Both Echo and Method have jumped straight into Normal to gear up for the Mythic push.
    • Rik Reverb first tries by Diva. Diva kicked off the first Mythic pulls on Rik Reverb, initially bringing him down to 89% in just two attempts.
      • However, due to unusual conditions and raid timing for their members, they were unable to secure the kill this time. Hopefully, they’ll be back stronger in their next raid session!

    • Melee Mechanics holt sich den World First fΓΌr mythische Vexie – nach nur zwei Pulls! GlΓΌckwunsch! Melee Mechanics hat Mythisch Vexie in Rekordzeit besiegt und steuert nun auf die Normal und Heroic Liberation of Undermine Splits zu. Das Race to World First lΓ€uft auf Hochtouren!
    • Die Server waren gerade einmal 20 Minuten online, als der erste mythische Kill fiel! Mal sehen, ob die nΓ€chsten Bosse eine grâßere Herausforderung darstellen.
    • Melee Mechanics grabs World First Mythic Vexie after just two pulls! Congratulations! They are now heading to Normal and Heroic Liberation of Undermine splits. Race to World First is in full pace!
      • Servers were up for just 20 minutes when the first Mythic kill happened! Let’s see if other bosses will be more challenging.

What is WoW Race to World First

WoW Race To World First: Raszageth, Queen Ansurek, Fyrakk

WoW Race to World First, or RWF, is a highly anticipated community-driven competition. Elite guilds from all over the globe contest for the honor of being the first to conquer the latest and most challenging raid content. The winner of a raid RWF is the guild who defeats the new raid’s final boss on Mythic difficulty.

Race to World First WoW kicks off whenever Blizzard releases a new raid, typically alongside a major expansion or patch. Blizzard doesn’t officially organize the RWF. It’s an event by the players for the players from players for players. Supported by sponsors and organizations, RWF has grown into a massive event that captivates thousands of fans to live streams.

How WoW RWF works

How WoW RWF works

The RWF begins when a new Mythic raid tier launches, often one week after the raid’s Normal and Heroic difficulties become available. It includes the following phases:

Pre-race preparation

Guilds study the raid and bosses’ mechanics, developing strategies, practice rotations and coordinated actions. This is also the time to try out various class compositions and plan their gear upgrades so every team members is well-prepared for the battle ahead.

The raid’s launch day

When a new raid launches, guilds have two main strategies. Some jump straight in, aiming to defeat as many bosses as possible and claim the boss’s World First titles. This doesn’t mean that they are the World First champion for that raid. For example, Melee Mechanic took Ulgrax’s World First, but Liquid won the Nerub’ar raid RWF since the latter was the first to defeat Queen Ansurek. Others focus on split runs to gear up, improving their chances of faster progress and an easier final boss kill.

Splitting and gearing

No matter what happens, in the end, all guilds will eventually have to do split runs. This strategy is key to maximizing gear acquisition. Guilds form multiple raid groups to farm gear from lower difficulties, funneling the best items to core raiders to boost their power for progression in the main raid. However, splitting in RWF requires enormous resources and contributions from many players. That’s why the top guilds even have dedicated assistants to help with these splits.

Progressing in the raid

With each boss, the guilds adapt their strategies based on what they learn from their own attempts and by observing their competitors. If a boss shows itself to be an unusual challenge, guilds may choose to fight it off-stream to keep their tactics hidden from others. In cases where a boss is too difficult to defeat, Blizzard may step in with fixes, nerfs, or buffs to help balance the gameplay.

The final boss

The final boss is often the biggest challenge, holding guilds up for days. A guild might race through earlier bosses and reach the final one first, but if it proves too difficult, they can get stuck while other guilds catch up. In some cases, the guild that reached the final boss first couldn’t defeat it, and the World First title went to a later contender.
