Housing dyes guide

To craft Housing Dyes, you’ll need a character with either Alchemy or Inscription. Both professions automatically unlock all dye recipes as soon as you learn the Classic version of the profession, so there are no additional quests, vendors, or achievements required. This makes dye crafting easy to access for both new and experienced crafters.
Dye crafting begins by converting herbs into pigments. Using 10 of any herb will always produce 1 pigment, regardless of the herb’s quality, so it’s best to use whichever herbs are cheapest or most readily available. Different herbs create different pigments, allowing you to target specific colors while keeping crafting costs low and flexible.
Below is the complete list of Housing Color Pigments and the herbs used to create them, collected from various expansions throughout the game.
Once you’ve collected your pigments, head to a Dye Crafting Table in your faction’s housing hub:
- Founder’s Point – Alliance Neighbourhood
- Razorwind Shores – Horde Neighbourhood
At the Dye Crafting Table, pigments are combined to create finished Housing Dyes. While each dye requires pigments tied to a specific color category, the system in itself is intentionally forgiving, allowing multiple dye variants to be crafted from the same color group.
Note
For example, both Arcwine Dye and Forsaken Plum Dye can be created using purple pigments, giving you flexibility within each color category.
Housing dyes overview

Once crafted, dyes will stack in your inventory, so keep an eye on your bag space as you stock up. If you already have dyes, you can begin recoloring your WoW Housing items right away. Not all decor is dyeable. To avoid confusion, open your Decor Catalogue and use the filter menu to show Dyeable items only. From there, select a decor piece and apply your dyes to customize its appearance.
Many decor items feature multiple dye slots, allowing for deeper and more detailed customization. To keep things simple, you can hide unavailable customization options until you’re ready to explore them. You can also preview how a decor item will look with a specific dye applied, though actually painting it requires having that dye in your bags.
If you’re curious to see how different dyes look in practice, we recommend visiting The Architects of Azeroth Discord server, where players showcase their Housing designs and display The War Within Housing Dyes on a wide variety of decor items.
