Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide: 4 Best Methods to Gear Up
Welcome to our comprehensive Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide. This time, we are going to discuss the ways that can help you gear up your character in the current Cataclysm expansion.

Table of Contents
This Cataclysm Classic gearing guide covers various methods, ranging from easy to challenging, to help you acquire high-level armor. These methods include purchasing from the Auction House, running dungeons, farming Reputation, earning Valor and Justice Points, and participating in raids.
Whether you are a novice or an experienced player, our article is your go-to resource for deciding which gearing-up approach suits you best.
Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide: Auction House
Visiting the Auction House and purchasing some rare and even epic items is step one towards gearing up your character. There is plenty of affordable equipment for the general audience, costing less than 500 gold each. Also, if you have enough money, the auctioneers will provide you with more expensive epic items, the prices of which tend to decrease with time.

Since many players level up their professions, plenty of crafted gear is in high demand, which leads to an abundance of these items at the Auction House. You can even buy some gear from WotLK, which can still provide good stats and a high item level despite being from a previous expansion.
We recommend you head directly to the Auction House in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, click the Armor tab, choose “Rarity,” and sort from the cheapest to most expensive. You can find over 339+ pieces of gear at excellent prices there. Acquiring them can help you complete your gear collection, enabling you to queue up for Heroic dungeons, which is fantastic.
Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide: Dungeons
Cataclysm Classic Normal Dungeons
One of the WoW Cataclysm Classic Level 85 gearing methods is to team up with other players and run dungeons using the LFG button. If you are a DPS player, waiting for an invite may be challenging due to long queue times. Alternatively, you can queue up as a healer or a tank, or if that’s not your playstyle, doing quests while waiting is another option.

Altogether, running WoW Cataclysm Classic dungeons on Normal difficulty has become beneficial. Thanks not only to the fact that the bosses themselves currently drop rare-quality gear at item levels from 308 to 333 but also to the possibility of picking up quests from the dungeon NPCs. Completing these quests rewards you with item-level gear from 308 to 333.
If you need a specific item to increase your item level, signing up for a particular dungeon is also a way to go. And even if you do not get the bonus reward, you will still earn some Justice Points for defeating bosses (see the Justice Points section below), which you can spend on buying higher item-level gear.
Cataclysm Classic Justice Points
Justice Points are a form of currency earned through defeating bosses in Normal-difficulty dungeons and raids from previous expansions like Wrath of the Lich King and Burning Crusade.

While there is no cap on your weekly earnings, it is essential to note that the maximum stash allowed to have is 4,000 Justice Points. Once this threshold is reached, we recommend spending these Points before continuing your farming endeavors.

To spend this currency, travel to Justice Quartermasters, known as Gunra in Orgrimmar at [48.4 71.6] and Magatha Silverton in Stormwind at [79.0 69.6]. These vendors offer the opportunity to acquire rare gear with an item level of 346.
Cataclysm Classic Heroic Dungeons
Once you increase your item level, you can start queuing up for Normal dungeons on Heroic difficulty and gain access to two additional dungeons, Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep, which have no Normal-difficulty counterparts (only low-level ones) at level 85, and pick up quests from the NPCs there.
In the WotLK expansion, any boss in a Heroic-difficulty dungeon could drop an epic item, but the situation has changed. With the release of WoW Cataclysm Classic, every boss in a Heroic dungeon will drop rare equipment at item level 346.
So, just like with Normal-difficulty dungeons, you can choose a specific Heroic dungeon if you hunt for a particular item. Remember, signing up for a specific Heroic dungeon is possible once per day.
Cataclysm Classic Valor Points
Valor Points are a superior form of currency akin to Justice Points, offering better ilvl 359 gear. These Points are obtainable through various means, including completing random Heroic dungeons and vanquishing raid bosses in WoW Cataclysm Classic. Once you finish your first Heroic dungeon for the day, you will be rewarded with 240 Valor Points.

While there is no maximum cap on acquiring Valor Points, you can earn up to 1,600 per week. If you go to a Heroic dungeon more than once a day and seven days a week, going over the limit, Heroic dungeons and Normal ones will give you Justice Points as a reward until the weekly reset.
Additionally, defeating bosses in the latest Cataclysm Classic raids on both Normal and Heroic difficulties grants 100 Valor Points each. This currency holds more excellent value compared to Justice Points, primarily due to its utility in acquiring epic-quality gear comparable to rewards from WoW Cataclysm Classic Normal-difficulty raids.

If you have enough Valor Points currency, you can spend it at the Valor Quartermasters: Faldren Tillsdale in Stormwind [79.0, 69.6] and Jamus’Vaz in Orgrimmar [48.6, 71.4]. These guys allow you to purchase epic 359-item level gear.
Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide: Reputation Farm
Even though gaining Reputation may seem tedious and time-consuming since each faction requires a different approach, it is one of the best ways to gear up in WoW Cataclysm Classic. In total, there are a few Reputation levels you must know about: Friendly, Honored, Revered, and Exalted.
The Wildhammer Clan and Dragonmaw Clan factions are already Friendly to you based on whether you are an Alliance or Horde player. This Friendly rep level allows you to get a Tabard of the Wildhammer Clan and a Tabard of the Dragonmaw Clan, which you can equip while running Normal and Heroic dungeons to expedite your Reputation gains with these two factions.
Anyway, when it comes to the Hellscream’s Reach and Baradin’s Wardens factions, obtaining their tabards becomes trickier. First, you must travel to Tol Barad Peninsula and complete six daily quests. You can also head to Tol Barad to do up to nine dailies there. Once you reach Honored by doing dailies, you can finally purchase their Hellscream’s Reach and Baradin’s Wardens tabards.
Anyhow, doing daily quests is among the many methods available to you. Alternatively, you can participate in the Baradin Hold PvP raid. Each defeated boss awards epic gear ranging from item levels 359 to 403 and 250 reputation points with the Baradin’s Wardens and Hellscream’s Reach. This raid can be completed once a week, and your faction must control Tol Barad to access it.
Besides, Alliance and Horde players have access to neutral factions, such as the Earthen Ring, Therazane, Guardians of Hyjal, and Ramkahen. To improve your standing with them, complete quests in their faction-specific territories. Once you reach Friendly status, you can buy their tabards. After that, you must focus on doing daily quests and wearing the tabards in dungeons to earn more Reputation points with the neutral factions mentioned above.
The main idea of earning Reputation points is the rewards that each faction can offer. In our previous article on this subject, we compiled a list of all the rewards available as you reach specific Reputation levels with the mentioned factions. If you have not read it yet, be sure to check it out:
Cataclysm Classic Gearing Guide: Raids
Participating in raids is the final stage in your gearing journey. This process always yields the BiS items, which every PvE player should strive for.
As an 85-level player, you can access three WoW Cataclysm Classic raids: Bastion of Twilight, Throne of the Four Winds, and Blackwing Descent. Within these raids, you can obtain gear of item levels 359 and 372 through Normal and Heroic difficulties, respectively.
We have a highly informative article dedicated to BiS raid items for every class and spec in WoW Cataclysm Classic. We highly recommend that you give it a read:
Before joining a raid, having some initial gear item level is vital for making a good impact. Aim for at least 342+ for Normal-difficulty raids and 359+ for Heroic ones. It is also better to team up with your guild members rather than random players, as raids require careful coordination and knowledge of tactics. Unfortunately, random players tend to argue and even leave their teammates to avoid responsibility, which makes PvE activities like raids more challenging.
Therefore, it is advisable to join a guild where raids are regular, players are well-coordinated, and there is always a great chance to obtain more high-level gear. If you do not have your own guild or find raids complicated, our friendly and professional boosters are always at your service:
Conclusion
To sum up, feel free to employ any of the methods detailed in this article according to your preferences. However, we recommend utilizing all of them to optimize your chances of acquiring top-tier gear.
