  • Balance fixes: Adjustments are coming, but details remain unclear

Marvel Rivals is almost ready for a major update on February 21. The upcoming patch will bring important balance tweaks and two new heroes to complete the Fantastic Four team. The developers initially planned to implement a mid-season rank reset, but due to significant backlash from the community, this idea was scrapped. As a result, there will be no mid-season rank reset.

Here’s everything you still can expect from this update.

How Seasons work in Marvel Rivals

The developers aim to make each Marvel Rivals season last for 3 months. Season 1 began on 10 January and should end by 10 April. Every season will introduce new maps, at least 2 new heroes, a rank reset by 6 divisions, and necessary balance fixes. When the season ends, all players will get rewards corresponding with their rank. In order to get your reward by the end of the season you need to complete at least 10 matches in Competitive mode.

Players finishing Season 1 with a Gold rank or higher (season max rank) will be rewarded with an exclusive cosmetic rewards, while those reaching Grandmaster rank or above, including the top 500 players, will receive a prestigious Crest of Honor. Crest of Honor is a highly regarded nameplate decoration, awarded to players who reach the high ranks. It represents a prestigious accomplishment, highlighting your mastery and recognition within the community. As of now, only 1.3% of the player base has managed to achieve Grandmaster rank or higher, making the Crest of Honor a highly rare reward.

Latest update

The developers will be granting rewards to players who reach Gold rank and above by the end of the first half of Season 1. The rewards remain unchanged: a cosmetic item for Gold rank players, and the Crest of Honors for Grandmaster rank and above.

2 new heroes

The devs will be adding The Thing and Human Torch to the hero pool to round out the Fantastic Four. The Thing will be a Vanguard hero, while Human Torch will be a Duelist who can fly, much like Iron Man. Hopefully, these two new characters will add fresh dynamics to gameplay.

Officially, that’s all the information available, but there have been some leaks. For instance, we already know the abilities of Human Torch.

Adding another Tank and DPS hero is definitely nice, but there are already plenty of options for those roles. Unfortunately, we won’t be getting any new support heroes until at least the start of Season 2.

Canceled rank reset

The developers initially planned to implement a mid-season rank reset, which would drop all players 4 divisions lower. This was meant to give everyone a fresh start after the balance changes. However, the community didn’t react well to this decision. Many players pointed out that the current rank distribution already heavily clusters players in Bronze and Silver ranks, so there is no need for reset. It would only cause many to lose their hard-earned progress.

Thankfully, the developers listened to the feedback and decided to cancel the mid-season rank reset. However, the reset will still take place at the end of Season 1 in April.

Balance changes

Alongside the addition of new heroes, the patch will also feature balance changes. While we don’t have full details yet, we can expect some nerfs to dominant heroes like Storm and Cloak & Dagger. Some performance improvements may also be made, such as fixing lags with Doctor Strange’s portal effect. Many players are hoping for buffs to underperforming heroes like Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Iron Fist. However, these are still predictions, so we’ll have to wait for the patch to see what happens.

Rush to high ranks

Marvel Rivals Rank Distribution

With the announcement of mid-season rewards, it’s clear that now is the perfect time to climb the ranks. Aim for Gold rank to secure rewards, or, if you’re a competitive player, push even further to achieve Grandmaster status.

However, stats reveal that the majority of the player base is still stuck at Bronze. If you find yourself stuck too, consider using our Marvel Rivals boosting service to help you climb the ranks and get season rewards.
