New Diablo 4 character creation screen coming in Patch 2.0?
Patch 2.0 has been underway on PTR since September 4, introducing a redesigned Diablo 4 character creation screen and other changes to the community.
The classic Diablo 2-style campfire scene has been given a modern upgrade. Instead of characters around a campfire, you now choose from class icons with dynamic animations and detailed info displayed on both sides, offering a sleek, mechanical design. On the live servers, however, the familiar cozy campfire remains, with the five classes gathered around it. You can hover over each character for a quick animation and click to view class details.
With the new Spiritborn class launching in October, bringing the total to six, Blizzard likely made this change to improve visibility and information for each class. Interestingly, some players noticed a swap between the character selection screens of Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft. While Diablo 4’s iconic campfire scene has been replaced by simple icons, WoW adopted a campfire-themed screen similar to Diablo’s. Ironically, as World of Warcraft becomes more solo-friendly, Diablo 4 is moving towards more group-focused content, as Reddit user Stealin pointed out.
Altogether, Blizzard’s removal of the iconic campfire screen feels like a real loss for the community, especially for long-time fans. In Diablo 2, the screen displayed all seven classes gathered around the fire, and its absence in future updates is surprising and leaves fans with loads of questions. As one Reddit user, PerfectlySplendid, put it, “That campfire holds 20 years of nostalgia. It’s a shame they removed it.” Hopefully, before releasing Vessel of Hatred, Blizzard will reconsider and find an alternative that reflects the community’s feedback.

Paladin.
just make the demonchild a playable class we need a warlock!!!
Id rather have the ability to have a thin druid body form vs the character screen changing. That’s not what the game needs. If anything keep the campfire scene and when you select a class then have it change to a new screen with the new animation. So instead of taking away a huge part of the franchise away that many love, just add this detail. Select your wanderer from the campfire then it switches to a cool new character screen where you can edit your appearance as such.
The campfire scene has been apart of Diablo from the start. It’s an icon for the game. Travlers gathered around a fire, resting, recovering from their sleepless nights and never ending battles. Please don’t take their peace away, Blizzard.
