Destiny 2 Armor 3.0 announced: Stat rework and armor set perks

Today, Bungie revealed another major armor rework coming to Destiny 2, introducing a new stat system and unique perks for armor sets.

Destiny 2 Armor 3 announced Stat rework and set perks

Earlier today, an hour-long stream about Episode Revenant took place, and details about the future of Destiny 2 were discussed. During the stream, the developers shared some information about upcoming DLCs and changes to armor and later released an article providing even more details about the armor system. Below, we will summarize all the essential information about Armor 3.0 in Destiny 2.

Stat rework

When the armor update arrives in Destiny 2 Frontiers, it will become more player-friendly. Now, every value in your stats will matter (not just every 10 points), and the stat cap will be raised from 100 to 200 points. This means that there will no longer be a situation where you’re a few points short of maximizing your stats’ effectiveness. Moreover, when you surpass 100 points, you’ll receive bonus improvements related to that stat, which we will discuss later.

All new armor will feature a Stat Archetype with a primary and secondary stat focus and a third random stat. This will allow players to reduce the dispersion of points and put more emphasis on the necessary stats in their builds. For example, the image below shows the Brawler archetype, which focuses on Strength and Discipline. Additionally, Class Items will also gain stats to make it easier for players to achieve the necessary stat spikes.

The developers also plan to improve underutilized stats and rework must-have ones to find a middle ground between them. For instance, leveling up Discipline and Strength will reduce ability cooldowns starting from 1 to 100 points and provide a chance to gain a second charge when reaching 101-200 points. Additionally, stat names will be changed to simply Grenade and Melee. A new Special Ammo stat will also be introduced, increasing the chance of finding green ammo and, after 100 points, raising the possibility of receiving double-sized drops.

Armor set perks

If you’ve been wishing for Legendary armor to have origin traits like weapons, your wish has finally been granted. There will no longer be a reason to farm armor just for the stats, as perks will now be introduced.

You’ll receive unique bonuses by collecting sets of two or four armor pieces. This will allow for even more experimentation in your builds as you try to create either a perfect four-piece set or two different sets to combine their effects. You can check out some possible sets and their perks below:

What about old armor and exotics?

Once the armor update goes live, your old armor will only undergo a stat type change. Stat points won’t be changed, and it’s possible that not all armor will retain the same values due to significant changes in the way stats work.

As for exotics, it’s a bit more complicated. The developers have stated that exotic armor won’t be part of these massive changes when the update launches, but Bungie is working to ensure that players’ stat bonuses remain aligned. However, with Exotic Class Items, players will be able to choose which additional stats they want to focus on.

Final words

That’s all Bungie revealed about these changes. Of course, as we get closer to the release of this update, we’ll receive more details, but for now, that’s all we’ve been told. Let us know in the comments what you think about these changes and if you’re excited about them!
