Destiny 2 Lightfall has been released. In the short period of not even 24 hours, it has already broken player count records on Steam.

The expansion’s launch has led to a new all-time high of concurrent players, with over 300,000 on Steam alone. According to SteamDB, 316,750 players tuned in at the same time the moment Lightfall went live. The numbers surpassed the previous record of 292,513 set in October 2019 when Shadowkeep was released.

It is important to note that the 300,000 figures only represent a fraction of the game’s total audience. As the title is also available on console platforms. The launch is expected to have also led to an uptick in usage on PlayStation and Xbox.

While Destiny 2 is free-to-play, Lightfall can be purchased separately for $50 or as part of the $100 Annual Pass. The fifth expansion brings along the penultimate Light versus Darkness chapter. The time has come for Guardians to band together and protect humanity from the grasp of The Witness and its disciple, Calus.

If you want to catch up on the story so far, WowVendor has provided a recap of the most important events leading to the game’s current culmination.
