WoW Midnight: How to farm Lumber for Housing Decor
Efficient Lumber farming guide with best zones, tips, and requirements to gather every wood type fast.

Table of Contents
Key takeaways
- Lumber is essential and Warbound: You can’t trade or buy it, so all Housing decor requires you to gather your own materials.
- You must get a Harvesting Hatchet to start: Once purchased from your Housing vendor, Lumber nodes appear on your map and become gatherable.
- Each Lumber type has an ideal farming zone: Knowing the best locations saves time, especially since many decor items require large amounts of each wood type.
Farming Lumber is one of the core tasks in the Housing system, and getting started is easier than it looks. Before you can spread out across the world collecting different wood types, you’ll need a few essentials and a basic understanding of where each resource comes from.

But before we begin let’s start with the basics.
What is Lumber

Lumber is the primary crafting material for nearly all Housing decor, and without it, decorating your home simply isn’t possible. It’s also a Warbound resource, so you can’t buy it on the Auction House or sell it to vendors. Once you gather it, it stays within your Warband and is used exclusively for crafting.
How to farm Lumber

Before you can start farming Lumber nodes, you’ll need a Harvesting Hatchet. Luckily, it’s easy to start, just pick it up from the Housing vendor in your faction’s Housing hub: Lestia Goldenstrike in Founder’s Point [51.8, 38.6] for Alliance, or Xiz’ro in Razorwind Shores [54.2, 58.0] for Horde. Once you’ve got the hatchet, Lumber nodes will appear on your map and you’re good to go.
Here’s the catch, though: Housing decor requires a lot of different types of Lumber, which means you’ll be visiting several spots across the world. Below is a table with every Lumber location so you know exactly where to farm what you need.
| Lumber type | Expansion | Best zone to farm | Lumber farm locations | Current amount needed for every decor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Darkpine Lumber | Battle for Azeroth (BFA) | Zuldazar | All BFA zones (incl. Mechagon and Nazjatar) | 476 |
| Ashwood Lumber | Cataclysm | Mount Hyjal | All Cataclysm zones (except Vashj’ir) | 451 |
| Bamboo Lumber | Mists of Pandaria | Jade Forest | All MoP zones | 526 |
| Ironwood Lumber | Classic | Ashenvale | All Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor zones (except new Cata zones) | 506 |
| Coldwind Lumber | Wrath of the Lich King | Grizzly Hills | All Northrend zones | 465 |
| Olemba Lumber | The Burning Crusade | Nagrand | All Outland zones | 512 |
| Dragonpine Lumber | Dragonflight | Emerald Dream | All Dragon Isles zones | 637 |
| Fel-Touched Lumber | Legion | Azsuna | All Broken Isles zones (incl. Argus) | 594 |
| Arden Lumber | Shadowlands | Ardenweald | All Shadowlands zones | 532 |
| Dornic Fir Lumber | The War Within | Isle of Dorn | All Khaz-Algar zones (incl. K’aresh) | 559 |
| Shadowmoon Lumber | Warlords of Draenor | Nagrand (Draenor) | All Draenor zones | 451 |
| Thalassian Lumber (currently not available) | Midnight | Quel’Thalas | All Midnight zones | TBA |
Note
The best zones to farm are generally the ones packed with Lumber nodes or those with wide, flat terrain that makes flying between spots quick. That said, keep in mind you won’t be the only one out there gathering.
If a zone feels crowded it’s often faster to swap to a less popular area where you’ll have the nodes mostly to yourself.
Best Lumber farming method

Lumber comes from world nodes, giving Druids a natural advantage since they can gather directly from flight form and save a lot of travel time.
A useful trick is the Emerald Dreamway. The class hall teleport provides quick access to multiple zones through its portal network, many of which have plenty of trees. It’s fast to unlock at max level and makes routing easier.
If you want the most efficient setup for Lumber farming, a Druid is the best option. And with the faster leveling in Patch 11.2.7, getting one to max level before Midnight is easy.
