Designed for players who want a bigger challenge than Heroic dungeons, Celestial Dungeons introduce powerful blessings from the August Celestials, gear from Raid Finder, and even progress toward MoP Legendary quest. So let’s take a look at how things actually work.
What are Celestial Dungeons

Replacing LFR in MoP Classic, Celestial Dungeons are an additional dungeon difficulty tier in Mists of Pandaria Classic. They are tailored for players who are ready to take the next step beyond Heroic dungeons, offering raid-level mechanics, enemies, new achievements and greater rewards.
Players can queue for Celestial Dungeons through the Dungeon Finder (LFG), making them accessible for both solo players and premade groups.
Note
You must have 90 level and at least 435 item level to queue for Celestial Dungeons.
Celestial Dungeons aren’t a one-and-done feature. They will evolve alongside each new raid tier. Starting with Throne of Thunder and later Siege of Orgrimmar, Celestial Dungeons bring in new enemies, updated Celestial powers, and fresh rewards.
Celestial Dungeons launch date

While there’s no exact release date yet, Blizzard confirmed that Celestial Dungeons will launch two weeks after Mogu’shan Vaults opens.
Blessings from the August Celestials

Inside these dungeons, players will encounter the August Celestials—four powerful Wild Gods of Pandaria. They grant unique blessings to help players overcome the dungeon’s challenges.
This section will be updated with August Celestials’ buffs when information is available.
Who are the August Celestials in WoW?
In World of Warcraft, the August Celestials are four powerful Wild Gods revered throughout Pandaria. They embody the core virtues of the Pandaren and play major roles in both lore and gameplay during the Mists of Pandaria expansion:
- Xuen, the White Tiger – Symbolizes strength and courage. Xuen is associated with physical power and is often worshipped by warriors and fighters.
- Chi-Ji, the Red Crane – Represents hope and healing. Chi-Ji is a patron of monks and healers, guiding those who bring renewal and balance.
- Yu’lon, the Jade Serpent – Embodies wisdom and knowledge. Yu’lon is revered by scholars and those who seek spiritual clarity.
- Niuzao, the Black Ox – Stands for fortitude and perseverance. Niuzao is often honored by those who bear burdens for others, like tanks and protectors.
Loot and rewards

Loot from Celestial Dungeons goes beyond what you’d get in Heroic runs. Expect Raid Finder gear, including tier set pieces, along with both random and target-farmable drops. Bosses also drop August Stone Fragments, a currency that can be exchanged for powerful items, which we will cover in the next section.
Older loot won’t be removed, allowing players to still chase previous rewards as the content progresses.
Plus, players can progress the Legendary questline entirely through Celestial Dungeons. Blizzard mentioned that they are updating it to keep the full story intact with no raiding required.
Legendary Sigils of Power and Sigils of Wisdom drop from final bosses in Celestial Dungeons when players are on the corresponding Legendary quest. Progress toward the Legendary questline can be made by defeating the Sha of Doubt and acquiring the Chimera of Doubt during the relevant quest. Players who choose to reject Wrathion’s offer to harness Fear will follow the path of Doubt instead.
How Celestial Dungeon loot system works:
- Celestial Dungeons will become available two weeks after the launch of Mogu’shan Vaults.
- Following that, every raid released will trigger an update two weeks later, adding new drops to Celestial Dungeons and expanding the inventory of the new NPC with Raid Finder level items from the latest raid.
- On initial release, players will be able to purchase several items, including LFR level gear from Mogu’shan Vaults, a Satchel of Celestial Chance containing a handful of Lesser Charms of Good Fortune and a chance at unreleased mounts from the original Mists of Pandaria expansion, as well as Commendations of Service and Valor Points.
New currency: August Stone Fragments

August Stone Fragments are a new currency introduced in Celestial Dungeons. Here’s everything we know about them so far:
- Players can use August Stone Fragments to purchase high-end PvE armor and weapons.
- Each boss in Celestial Dungeons drops two August Stone Fragments per player.
- If all other bosses in the dungeon have been defeated, the final boss will drop an additional three fragments.
- The first Celestial Dungeon completed each day grants a bonus of four August Stone Fragments, while each subsequent run awards an extra two.
- Players can also pick up a rotating daily quest related to Celestial Dungeons from Challenger Soong or Challenger Wuli in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, which rewards three additional fragments.
- This daily quest never features the same dungeon two days in a row and will not overlap with the Challenge Mode daily quest.
- Initially, the amount of August Stone Fragments a character can hold is limited to 60, but the cap will increase with the release of each new raid tier.
- Players can use these fragments to purchase items from the new NPC, the Avatar of the August Celestials, located in the Shrine of Two Moons and the Shrine of Seven Stars.
