In the latest Mists of Pandaria Classic Beta build, four new mounts tied to the upcoming Celestial Dungeons have been discovered: each themed after the August Celestials.
Let’s take a closer look at these mounts. But first, a quick reminder of what Celestial Dungeons are and who the August Celestials are in Pandaria’s lore.
What are Celestial Dungeons

Celestial Dungeons are a new feature in Mists of Pandaria Classic, replacing the original LFR system. Designed for players looking to step beyond Heroic difficulty, they introduce raid-level mechanics, tougher enemies, new achievements, and enhanced rewards. Players can access them through the Dungeon Finder (LFG), whether solo or in a group, provided they meet the requirements of level 90 and an item level of at least 435. These dungeons evolve with each raid tier, bringing new foes, powers, and loot.
You can read more about this new feature in our Celestial Dungeons guide.
Within the Celestial Dungeons, players will also meet the August Celestials, the revered Wild Gods of Pandaria. Each represents a core Pandaren virtue:
- Xuen, the White Tiger, embodies strength and courage.
- Chi-Ji, the Red Crane, stands for hope and healing.
- Yu’lon, the Jade Serpent, symbolizes wisdom and knowledge.
- Niuzao, the Black Ox, represents fortitude and perseverance.
These powerful spirits not only offer unique blessings to support adventurers in battle, but now it seems you can even ride them, or at least mounts inspired by their celestial forms.
New Celestial Dungeons mounts

Here are all four new Celestial Dungeons mounts coming in MoP Classic:
- Reins of the Celestial Riding Ox
- Reins of the Celestial Riding Serpent
- Reins of the Celestial Riding Tiger
- Reins of the Celestial Riding Crane
As you can see, they resemble very well the 4 Wild Gods of Pandaria: Xuen, Chi-Ji, Yu’lon, and Niuzao.
How to get Celestial Dungeons mounts in MoP Classic

In order to get Celestial Dungeons mounts you need to buy Satchel of Celestial Chance with 10 August Stone Fragment. This new currency is earned for defeating bosses in Celestial Dungeons or completing Celestial Dungeon Finder runs. Satchel of Celestial Chance has a chance to contain Reins of the Celestial Riding Ox, Reins of the Celestial Riding Serpent, and Reins of the Celestial Riding Tiger.
And in order to get Reins of the Celestial Riding Crane, you have to complete Pandaria Celestial Hero achievement. For that, you need to complete all nine Phase 1 Celestial Dungeons.
Community reaction

The community has had mixed reactions to the new mounts introduced in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Some players argue that the Celestial Dungeons undermine the original spirit of MoP and believe the game should remain true to its 2012 version without any changes. For them, the addition of new mounts is just another reminder that a pure MoP experience is no longer possible. That said, the developers have already announced upcoming class changes from Warlords of Draenor for the MoP release, so for this part of the community, there may be bigger concerns ahead.
On the other hand, many players are excited about these four new mounts and have even asked the developers to add them to the Retail servers. The good news is that Retail already features Yu’lei, Daughter of Jade, which closely resembles the new Reins of the Celestial Riding Serpent.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming four Celestial Dungeon mounts? Which one do you absolutely need to have? And which one would you like to see added to Retail WoW? If you’re a dedicated mount collector, consider to buy WoW mounts.
