Valorant Tier List: Best and Worst Agents
Learn more about the current state of the meta in our Valorant Tier List.
Table of Contents
Currently, there are 25 characters in Valorant. There are four classes of Agents that play specific roles:
- Controllers, as the name suggests, look to control the battlefield. They are best at isolating specific parts of the map and reducing the enemy’s visibility.
- Duelists are characters who usually get into the fight first. They are great at mobility and can enter areas quickly, causing chaos.
- Initiators are great at reconnaissance and angle control. They provide the team with information and support their entrance into a fight with their abilities.
- Sentinels are suited for defense. They can slow down an enemy attack and hold positions reliably.
As developers constantly adjust the game’s balance, some Agents rise to the top, and others can become quite underwhelming. This Valorant tier list aims to provide information on the current state of the meta, taking the information from ranked games and professional matches.
Keep in mind this tier list is just our opinion. The best character for you is the one you love playing the most. Don’t let a lower ranking sway you—sometimes, underdog characters can shine as the meta shifts. We’ll keep updating this list to keep you updated on any changes.
We recommend checking out our How to aim better in Valorant guide for new players. Despite the different character abilities, the best skill in the game is still your aim. Agent skills only add to that ability, but you will have difficulty ranking up if you struggle with aiming.
Valorant Tier List criteria
This tier list is divided into five tiers. S is considered the best, and C is the “worst.” We decided not to include an F tier for now, as there are currently no Agents with no valuable abilities. Here is a quick explanation of every tier.
- S-Tier — Best Agents in the game; they can comfortably fulfill their role in the team and much more.
- A-Tier — Overall, they are great Agents in their role and just lack that extra versatility.
- B-Tier — Middle of the road, the characters here are not flawed but not as strong as those in higher tiers.
- C-Tier — Characters who seem good on paper but don’t fit the current meta, as some Agents can play this role better.
Valorant Tier List: From S to C
We divided the Tier List by Agent roles. It is generally advised to play or at least know how to play an Agent from every role. Sometimes, your favorite Agent is taken, or your team may lack another role. If you play several roles, you will be much more helpful in every match, making you rank faster as well.
This Tier List is updated to include the last 9.05 patch.
Here is our entire Valorant Tier List:
We’ve provided detailed information below to help you understand why each character is placed in their respective Tier.
Valorant Tier List: S-Tier
Clove
Clove is a unique character due to her abilities. Not only can she revive herself after dying, but she can also use smoke even after she is dead. Basically, even killing Clove will not remove her value to the team.
Omen
Sharing S tier with Clove, we have Omen. Omen is the definition of a controller. He can quickly send out smokes that he can later reuse during the match. He has a strong flash, and his teleporting abilities provide a way to outmaneuver opponents.
Neon
Neon is the only S-Tier duelist right now. Even after her buffs, she rose to the top and stayed there. She is the queen of mobility with her running and slides. Neon has basically replaced Jett in most of her roles and now dominates the meta.
Sova
Sova is already a great character, but his usefulness is amplified by his ability to counter other Agents like Cypher. With his arrow and drone, Sova provides the team with a lot of information. He is also often used to clutch rounds with his ult.
Cypher
Long gone are the days when Cypher was considered a joke. Now, he is basically irreplaceable. Cypher can easily control the site alone, allowing the team to take control of the map. He also forces the opposing team to play around his abilities.
Valorant Tier List: A-Tier
Viper
Although not as dominant as before, Viper is still a great controller. Unlike other smokes in-game, Viper’s abilities affect the enemy’s HP. Making it much more dangerous to push through her smoke and wall.
Jett
Jett is one of the most popular Agents in the game. And although in meta, she is slightly worse than Neon, this difference is not big enough to completely forget about her. Jett still has her jump and dashes, allowing her to get to places few Agents could. And her gliding ability can really mess with enemies who are not ready for a flying target.
Raze
Raze is another excellent alternative to Neon. Compared to Jett, she is not that mobile, but she compensates for this with her firepower, as her grenade and Boom Bot can sometimes be a real danger. And her ultimate is one of the most feared ults in the game.
Gekko
Gekko shines with another Initiator in the team, but that does not mean he can’t stand his ground. Gekko’s abilities can be reused during the round. And let’s not forget the Wingman planting strategy.
Vyse
The latest Agent in the Valorant Protocol, Vyse, has already established herself as a great controller. She may be unable to hold sites like Cypher, but she is more helpful on the attacking side. And her ult can turn the round around quickly. In our Vyse overview you can learn more about Vyse and her abilities.
Killjoy
Great at site holding, Killjoy is a well-established alternative to Cypher. She also has more flexibility in her setups, making enemies surprised every time. The only real problem for Killjoy is that she is not as great on the attacking side.
Valorant Tier List: B-tier
Brimstone
Brimstone is a classic controller, and he is still useful in some situations, but the fact that he can’t reuse his smokes makes him a worse choice than higher tiers. Brimstone still has some offensive capabilities, and a skillful player can successfully prevent the enemy from defusing repeatedly.
Yoru
Yoru is a duelist who is slowly climbing up the meta. The only real problem is that he is not as fast as Neon, Jett, or Raze. A great Yoru player can show some insane plays, but he is not easy for beginners.
Reyna
Just like Reyna herself, most Reyna players are selfish and hungry to kill. A good Reyna player can dominate the battlefield by themselves in low-level ranks. However, in higher ranks, people reach limits regarding how good they can be at aiming, and that’s where team play is much more important. That’s why Reyna is not as popular with the top ranks.
Fade
Fade right now is not as helpful as she can be. This is primarily because most of her abilities are easy to destroy or don’t bring too much to the table. The best way to play fade right now is with another initiator like Gekko, for example.
Skye
Skye got nerfed pretty hard, and she is now not as great. She can still provide some information, but Sova or Fade are much better. She is most useful in quick rounds where everything is executed in seconds. If the game is prolonged, she slowly loses her usefulness. Considering how slow professional matches can be, it is unsurprising that Skye is used a lot less.
Deadlock
In the right hands, Deadlock can easily compete; however, if you constantly miss her wall placement and her ult, you don’t provide much value for the team. Due to this high skill cap, not many players want to play Deadlock over Agents like Cypher or Killjoy.
Chamber
The latest patch increased the range of Chamber’s teleportation. And it is a significant increase. Now that he can play more aggressively, he may rise to the meta. We will have to wait and see. For now, he lacks any actual holding abilities to justify his pick over other Sentinels.
Valorant Tier List: C-tier
Harbor
Harbour has some unique abilities. However, it is pretty hard to utilize them. Most of the time, he is just the worst version of Vyper. It is safe to say he will get some buffs soon, as Riot Games announced they are working on balancing.
Astra
Unlike Chamber, we don’t see the recent Astra buff affect her meta position in any way. An extra star doesn’t really fix her main problem of being too complicated compared to other controllers. We think she needs a complete rework to get people interested in choosing her.
Phoenix
Phoenix has the same problem as Reyna: He is pretty selfish with his kit, but great teamwork can counter this. He also can’t be as aggressive as Reyna, as his self-healing is much more costly and slower.
Iso
It’s the same problem as Reyna and Phoenix. Iso is great for beginners and unreliable for pros. At least, unlike Reyna and Phoenix, he has more potential to be redeemed.
Breach
Breach really lacks any recon abilities, which makes him a weird initiator. To get the most out of his abilities, you need excellent team coordination and definitely another initiator like Sova or Gekko.
KAY/O
Like Breach, KAY/O could be better at reconnaissance, so using him requires another initiator. He can’t offer much with his other non-recon abilities, either. His only upside is his ultimate. Another character that definitely needs a rework.
Sage
With Sage’s healing being nerfed, she is no longer as prominent as before, and besides her wall, she can’t really stop the enemy team from advancing. If her heals are buffed again, and maybe her ice can deal some damage, she could be a great Agent again.
And this is the end of our Valorant tier list. Share with us who your favorite Agent is, and do you agree with their position on the list?
