Valorant new agent Vyse: everything we know about agent 26

Valorant new agent Vyse is coming soon. She will be the agent number 26. Let’s take a look at this new mysterious agent. What is her story, and kit, and when will she be released?

Valorant new agent Vyse: name and role

Valorant revealed a new agent Vyse with a new trailer. In England, Vyse was a surname for people who lived near a border. This might allude to Vyse existing on the threshold between humanity and monstrosity. Vyse is a Sentinel. She will be the sixth agent in this role.

Valorant new agent Vyse abilities

With the reveal of Vyse, we also were shown all of her abilities. They were shown both in the game and a trailer and now we have a great understanding of her abilities.

Arc Rose (Flash)

It is unexpected for Vyse to have a flash ability. It is quite useful, however. Vyse can place her rose on a wall. Once an enemy comes close the rose will activate and flash everyone who looks in that direction. There is only one charge but you can pick it up to use elsewhere.

It can be useful against opponents who like fast pushing. This will make them constantly search for cover and anticipate being flashed frequently. This ability like Cypher’s tripwire or Killjoy’s alarmbot will force the enemy to be cautious and play slow giving you more time to react for rotations.

Razorvine (Molly)

This ability was more predictable. Vyse can place her thorns on the ground. Once they are placed they become invisible. Vyse can activate those thorns that spread over an area. Enemies inside that area will be slowed and will receive damage if they move. There are 2 charges for this ability.

This may be useful for tight hallways where the enemy is forced to move. You however need to have a complete view of the area where you placed those thorns. Because the enemies can stand inside then and wait out without taking damage. Since enemies can remain inside and wait without taking damage, you’ll need to force them to relocate.

Shear (Wall)

Another expected ability however what is unexpected is how this wall works. Vyse can plant this ability anywhere on the map similar to Sage’s wall. However, unlike Sage’s wall, Vyse’s wall only appears once an enemy has moved past it.

Instead of locking people outside of an area you lock people inside an area. This may be useful to isolate your opponents and block an escape route for them. The wall of course has one charge and will disappear after some time.

The wall is indestructible. However, to make this ability a bit less powerful, developers made it leave a slightly visible line between the ground and the walls. This means you can spot the wall and avoid getting trapped.

Steel garden (Ultimate)

Vyse’s ultimate ability is distinctive. Many expected her to have an AOE ultimate. But her ultimate is a new version of a stun. The thorns wrap around the weapons that your opponents in the area are holding. The thorns prevent those weapons from shooting, basically disabling the players. However you can still switch weapons, so usually, this will force your enemies to fight with pistols which does not guarantee your win.

This ultimate is mostly made for retakes and site entries. It can force your opponent to flee or fight with pistols which will be more advantageous for you, however, it is not as op as it seems at first glance.

Valorant new agent Vyse lore

The biggest question right now: “Is Vyse even human?”. To understand why this question exists let’s start from the beginning and see where the story is.

The first time we see Vyse is in the Abyss map trailer. At the end, we see a quick shot of bullets hitting an hourglass-shaped container. The bullets appear to do some damage to the glass wall of the container, waking up a figure inside. At this point, we did not know this was Vyse.

After the release of the map players can see this figure moving inside the container in-game. Also in-game we could see that the organization keeping Vyse inside was studying her closely.

Later down the patches, the update was made to Abyss. Vyse broke out of the container and escaped leaving her thorns and a metal rose at the scene. Sova has left a message to Brimstone regarding the breakout as well.

It is safe to assume that Vyse had some experiments tested on her. The faction responsible for this was interested in her powers. This also coincides with the fact that Omen was trying to learn the truth about his existence and find a cure. Vyse may be in a similar situation to him so they can relate and answer each other’s questions.

Now we return to the idea of Vyse not being human. As we already know she can make metal roses and thorns. They can be considered a part of Flora. This is an interesting detail if we dig a bit further.

In the universe of Valorant, there are creatures known as Radivores. They are animal variants of radiants. The most well-known Radivores are Gekko’s crew of four. There are also 2 other Radivores specifically mentioned in the story.

First is the bear we see in the Episode 7 cinematic UNMADE. Deadlock in this cinematic is a part of team Ursa (Latin for bear). In the same cinematic we can see that the Ursa team is trying to contact another team tasked to hunt escaped radiators called Briar (Meaning: Any of several prickly scrambling shrubs, especially the sweetbrier and other wild roses).

This team is most likely looking for Radivore ZN-35. ZN-35 is the sixth escaped Radivore (the other five are Gekko’s crew and the bear of course). We know about this Radivore from 2 mentions. First, the email on Bind talks about 6 escaped Radivores.

Second is the audio announcement from the Kingdom facility on Sunset.

“To all Radivore containment staff, subject ZN35 remains unaccounted for in the Dirac wing. This entity can disguise itself as any flora. Please remove all plants from your workspaces until it is recovered.”

— Valorant (Los Angeles Kingdom facility announcement)

It is safe to say that ZN-35 is either Vyse herself or a Radivore that merged with Vyse resulting in her having those abilities. And even if those versions are wrong they are surely related, maybe in the same way as Gekko is related to his crew.

The other possible hint that Vyse may not be human is her nationality or, rather, lack thereof. Other agents before release got their nationality leaked by teasers in their language. This has not happened for Vyse yet. This means she is from an English-speaking country or is just not human at all.

And with this all mentioned we come to the current state of Valorant’s lore  Right now we know that Jett is following Vyse with a possible goal to stop or recruit her. She talks about it in her voicemail to Brimstone.

Vyse is running around in search of revenge on the people who held her captive. This all brings us back to the Jett statue at Valorant Champions. As we can see Jett is captured by the thorns. This means that Vyse discovered that Jett was following her and possibly considered her a threat.

The reveal trailer confirms many of the theories. We never see Vyse’s face, her eyes appear non-human and glow yellow. And there is also yellow smoke coming from her mask. This leans more into the Radivore-human mutant theory.
