Marathon is not looking good, release date could be delayed

As we all know, Bungie is currently in a very difficult situation. Despite receiving high praise and enthusiastic reviews, Destiny 2: The Final Shape failed to recoup its costs, and the studio has lost a significant number of employees. Many believe that Marathon could be a safe boat for the studio, but Jason Schreier from Bloomberg doesn’t think so.

Jason was invited to the Skill Up podcast to discuss the situation surrounding Bungie. During the podcast, he was asked about what he had heard regarding Marathon and whether any positive aspects were associated with it:

“Not great from what I heard. There is a reason why it was planned for this year and slipped a whole year. People that I talked to are a little pessimistic about it, even hitting its current deadline. I don’t know exactly when that is, sometime in 2025, but I’m not sure.”

Jason continues by saying that he heard some not-so-encouraging things about the game a couple of months ago. According to him, he hasn’t heard any enthusiastic words about it, especially not anything that would suggest it’s going to save Bungie. Furthermore, the journalist compares the situation with Marathon to Suicide Squad, noting that Bungie seems to have already missed the hype around extraction shooters and is trying to jump on the train after it’s already left.

However, Jason also mentions that it’s too early to assume whether it will fail. As an example, he thought Helldivers 2 would be a failure, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. You can listen to the segment about this in the podcast:

Are you looking forward to Marathon? Will you play it, or are you not interested in extraction shooters? Share your thoughts in the comments!
