Escalation of Freedom for Helldivers 2 is announced
Helldivers 2 unleashes “Escalation of Freedom” — biggest update yet!

Despite the significant drop in online players in Helldivers 2, the developers at Arrowhead are not giving up and are preparing the biggest update for the game! On August 6, the Escalation of Freedom update will be released, bringing many new features to shake up players and upcoming battles. Let’s briefly go over all the new things that will appear in Escalation of Freedom for Helldivers 2:
- New foes to fight against: The Teminids are getting two new types of enemies, and the Automatons will boast an even stronger army of robots.
- The Impaler: The tentacle beast that will hinder your retreats. It’ll attack suddenly and won’t let you escape the battlefield.
- The Spore Charger: The universally hated Charger will get a new variant, surrounding itself with fog and acting incredibly aggressively.
- A new type of Commander: The Teminids have decided to make their Commanders deadlier, so you will encounter a new heavy type that summons entirely different Terminids.
- Big Tank that Shoots Rockets: The Automatons have decided to stop playing games and finish off all Helldivers with a Big Tank that Shoots Rockets.
- Even higher difficulty: If level 9 difficulty weren’t enough for you, level 10 would be a challenge for all players. It will offer more enemies to fight against, more significant outposts, and even more chaos on the battlefield.
- Acid storm modifier: Acid rain now has a new mechanic where both you and your enemies will take more damage.
- More diverse swamp: The swamps will get a visual update, making them more frightening and threatening.
- New objectives: So far, only one objective has been revealed, like the Retrieve Larva mission, where you need to collect vials with crying larvae and reach extraction with them.
- More events coming soon: Arrowhead teases that the Automatons and Terminids are preparing for a second galactic war, with many unpleasant surprises in store for players.
You can watch the entire overview trailer yourself if you’re interested in seeing what to expect from the update. In the meantime, what do you think of Escalation of Freedom? Will you return to Helldivers 2 for it on August 6?
