The First Descendant achieved 170,000 player count on Steam

South Korean developers decided to delight gamers this year by releasing various intriguing projects. Earlier this year, Stellar Blade was released with high praise from the PC and Playstation gamers. Today, Nexon (known for Dave the Diver and DNF Duel) launched The First Descendant, a free-to-play looter-shooter inspired by Destiny 2 and Warframe. Naturally, such a significant release couldn’t go unnoticed by fans of the genre, leading to a real buzz around the project on Steam.

At the time of writing this news, The First Descendant player count is over 170,000 people on Steam just a few hours after the official server launch. For comparison, Dave the Diver had 98,480 players at launch, an incredibly high result for Nexon. Another notable release, The Finals by Embark Studios, with support from Nexon, had a peak online count of 242,619 players. Right now, The First Descendant has every chance to surpass this record!

However, not everything is as smooth as we’d like. The First Descendant has mixed reviews based on 1,332 reviews, with criticism focusing on its technical state, weak storyline, problems with purchasing in-game currency, and constant crashes, making the game unplayable for some. Nevertheless, mixed reviews mean there are positive aspects. Those who managed to play in closed betas or are playing now praise the design, epic boss battles, fun gunplay with unique superpowered shenanigans, and flexible character customization.
