The First Descendant Hailey controversy: too much grind?
Players are dissatisfied with how long the grind to unlock Hailey is. Check out more details about The First Descendant Hailey controversy.

Table of Contents
Hailey is the new Descendant released in season 1 of The First Descendants. Players who bought her only praise her for great damage potential. However, for most players, Hailey is not accessible yet, as they need to unlock her. You can learn how to unlock Hailey in detail using our guide.
The First Descendant Hailey controversy: Players are not happy with the grind
It is not news for any TFD player that you can unlock characters in 2 different ways. You can either spend real money and get them right away. Or you can save money and unlock them through grind. Before Hailey came out, the grind was mostly the same for all the characters.
However, because Hailey created the new Season 1 update, you must participate in the new content to unlock her. You can get her parts by completing the new Invasion: The Caligo Ossuary mission. You have a 25% chance to get one of the four parts, and you can get up to 3 parts per run if you complete it fast enough.
Unfortunately, as the community pointed out, you must farm for multiple weeks to unlock Hailey.
As you can see here, if you are perfectly lucky, you can do it in 12 days. Of course, it is almost impossible to be so lucky. The more realistic calculations put it between 3 weeks and 1.5 months. That’s why many players choose to purchase a Hailey unlock boost instead to skip the grind.
The First Descendant continues to collect problems
The main problem with that is not really the grind itself but the lack of content in general. A new character would be considered new content for the update; however, if F2P players need an entire month to get this character, do we consider this content?
Looter shooters are known to be quite grindy, but the grind is supposed to lead to progression. You would need an already well-built character to farm Hailey’s parts effectively. Many players decided not to bother unlocking Hailey for that reason. What is the new character’s purpose if you can already beat everything with another?
The player base was already complaining about previous problems in the game, such as excessive RNG, unreasonable seasonal goals, and the lack of content. This problem just adds more reasons for some to leave the game.
It is safe to say that the developers will need to address this problem; even if they ignore the situation with Hailey, it is not guaranteed that unlocking future characters will be even more of a grind.
