New Diablo 4 Akarat story: Listen and read now
Blizzard has just dropped an incredible Diablo 4 Akarat story, which you can also discover as a 47-minute audiobook on YouTube.
As part of the first Diablo 4 expansion buildup, Blizzard has recently dropped a new story titled “How Akarat Came to Nahantu,” continuing to share snippets of new lore with players. Written by Matthew J. Kirby, author of The Book of Lorath and the upcoming Book of Prava, the story is available in text and audio on the official Diablo 4 YouTube channel and the following link:
Who is Akarat in the Diablo series?
The story we mentioned earlier follows Akarat, an ascetic monk who, along with his followers, fought against evil and corruption in the ancient jungles of Nahantu. Although Akarat is an important figure in Diablo’s lore, he never actually appears in the game and is only mentioned by other characters. Akarat was originally from Xiansai, an island northwest of Scosglen, and journeyed across the Sanctuary in search of enlightenment.
During his journey, he had a vision of the angel Yaerius, emphasizing the need to resist evil and fully devote oneself to the Light. Inspired by this vision, Akarat founded the Zakarum religion and became a prophet, spreading Yaerius‘ teachings across Kehjistan and gathering many followers.
However, Akarat mysteriously disappeared in the southern jungles of Kehjistan, in a region called Nahantu within the Vessel of Hatred, where his tomb is believed to be. Akarat’s founding of the Zakarum religion is crucial in the Diablo universe, as the Zakarum later imprisoned the demon Mephisto in a Soulstone.
Mephisto’s corruption of the monks at Travincal and his escape are key parts of Diablo 2’s plot, where players venture into the Kurast jungles to fight his influence. With this connection to Vessel of Hatred, Neyrelle, carrying the Soulstone with Mephisto inside, may be searching for Akarat’s tomb to succeed where the Zakarum failed and finally defeat Mephisto. Given Nahantu’s history and its link to Mephisto’s corruption, this could be a fitting story continuation. Fortunately, we’ll find out soon with the expansion’s release.
Do you think Mephisto will be the main villain in Diablo 4’s first expansion? Will Neyrelle succeed in her mission? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
