BO6 Season 3: Console players can turn off crossplay, no more PC cheaters

Activision finally lets console players switch off crossplay in Black Ops 6 Season 3.

Jason Hudson looks straight at the camera.

In a patch note on March 31, 2025, Activision revealed that starting April 2, 2025, PlayStation and Xbox users will be able to opt out of PC matchmaking:

“In Season 03, we’re giving console players more granular options by separating the MP Ranked Play and Call of Duty: Warzone Ranked Play settings and adding a new Multiplayer-only setting for Quickplay, Featured, and Party Games matches.”

The long-requested feature aims to address growing concerns over PC cheaters. However, it also raises questions about the potential impact on queue times and the overall player experience in Call of Duty.

Crossplay settings are changing

Crossplay has been a key feature of Call of Duty since Modern Warfare (2019), allowing players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to compete together. However, the option to disable it was previously limited to ranked multiplayer and Warzone only. With PC cheating on the rise, Activision now gives console players more control over their matchmaking.

After the Black Ops 6 Season 3 update, console players will have three matchmaking options across Multiplayer Ranked Play, Warzone Ranked Play, and Multiplayer Unranked:

For cross-platform parties, Activision has detailed how these crossplay changes will affect their matchmaking settings:

This change lets console players steer clear of the PC player pool entirely. However, players will need to be careful with their party composition to avoid being accidentally matched with PC players.

Potential for longer queue times

The option for CoD console players to disable crossplay brings a potential downside: longer queue times. If a significant number of console users disable PC crossplay, it could shrink the matchmaking pool. This will inevitably lead to longer queue times, especially in less populated game modes.

Some PC players have also pointed out that if console players can filter out PC users, then PC users should have the same ability to exclude specific platforms. Complaints about console aim assist and voice chat issues have sparked discussions about whether crossplay filtering should be a two-way street.

Despite the concerns, some believe the impact will be minimal. Many PC players think only the most dedicated console users will disable PC crossplay. Casual players, who make up a large part of the Call of Duty community, are likely to leave crossplay enabled.

For now, the option to disable crossplay is a win for console players frustrated by cheaters. Still, its long-term impact on the Call of Duty ecosystem remains to be seen.

BigChungussays:

Unfortunately there’s only an option for multiplayer and ranked warzone, there was an option to turn off crossplay for unranked warzone before the verdansk update but they took it away..
