Cheaters have plagued Black Ops 6 Ranked Play since its release in November, frustrating players and tarnishing the game’s competitive experience. Activision has now admitted that its Ricochet Anti-Cheat system failed to deliver at launch, particularly for Ranked Play. However, the publisher has outlined plans for major improvements to combat cheaters and restore player trust.

The launch of Black Ops 6 Season 1 was marred by a surge in cheaters, leading many console players to turn off crossplay to avoid PC hackers. Activision’s Team Ricochet, the group behind its anti-cheat technology, acknowledged these issues and admitted their system did not perform well enough to prevent cheating at launch.

To address these concerns, Activision is doubling down on efforts to ensure Ranked Play is fair and enjoyable for everyone. There will be an Increased speed and frequency of account bans and faster removal of cheaters from Ranked leaderboards.
Activision has also promised major updates to Ricochet Anti-Cheat itself, set to launch during Season 2 and Season 3. These will include better tools for detecting cheats at a deeper level and extra layers of defense to improve detection and prevention.
The Replay Investigation system is also receiving upgrades to enhance manual reviews of gameplay clips. This helps identify cheaters faster and train Ricochet’s AI to improve its accuracy.
Ranked Play is a top priority for Activision because it attracts the most competitive and vocal Call of Duty players. The integrity of the mode is crucial, as cheating undermines both leaderboards and player experience.
