Supercell’s recent announcement has surprised many Brawl Stars players: Spike, one of the game’s iconic legendary brawlers, has been temporarily removed from the game. This all comes during the first week of the Angels vs Demons season. Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening with Spike, when he will return, and what other changes are coming.
Spike’s healing bug explained
The bug affecting Spike occurs when he uses his Fertilizer star power combined with the Demonfire modifier. Usually, the star power heals Spike while he’s within his super’s area of effect. However, with the Demonfire modifier active, Spike could heal continuously without needing his super ability, making him nearly invincible. This critical bug enabled Spike to regenerate all damage taken by simply standing still, creating frustration among players and disrupting competitive balance. To address this game-breaking issue, Supercell decided to disable Spike from Brawl Stars temporarily. The developers acknowledged that, while players will miss Spike’s presence in the game, the decision was necessary to ensure fair gameplay. While Spike remains disabled, players are encouraged to explore other brawlers and adapt to the temporary absence of the legendary cactus-brawler.
When will Spike return to Brawl Stars?
Supercell’s fix for the Spike bug involves a step-by-step rollout rather than a single maintenance update. They’re testing a new approach that releases updates server-by-server, meaning some players will regain access to Spike sooner than others. Supercell says Spike should be fully functional and available across all servers within two to three days after the update.
Other changes in the update
Other changes, except for Spike removal, have been implemented to maintain fair gameplay. The Angels vs. Demons modifiers have been temporarily removed from the Heist and Spirit Wars game modes, as another issue was found about the Brawler Mico. This exploit allowed players to deal massive damage to safes by using Mico’s Super on them with Demonfire modifier, leading players to win games while the other team had no way of fighting back. Supercell plans to rework the Demonfire modifier to reduce its damage output on safes, preventing any further advantage.
The Spirit Wars mode has also been removed from the Contests rotation until the development team can address these issues. To thank players for their patience, Supercell will provide three Angelic and three Demonic Drops as compensation once maintenance is complete.
