Apex Legends Season 20 New Armor System and Legend Upgrade System
In Apex Legends Season 20, Respawn decided to rework completely how you get your Armor in Battle Royale mode.
Body Shields are no longer a loot item and won’t be found on the ground in Battle Royale. Instead, all Legends have inherent Legend Armor that increases in capacity permanently as they level up.
Armor is fueled by a Shield Core which contains the current shield HP. Shield Cores can be swapped or dropped at any time as with previous armor systems, however, fallen enemies will now drop Shield Cores in their Death Boxes.
This means that you will not be able to swap your Blue Armor to Red quickly. However, picking up a higher-level Shield Core will temporarily overcharge your Armor and add extra shield health that is held for 30 seconds before returning to your Armor max capacity.
Now you may be wondering, “But how can I get a Red Armor? I can’t deal 2k damage every match.” And that’s where the Legend Upgrade system comes into play.
The Legend Upgrade system is an in-match progression system that deepens the Apex Legends Battle Royale experience by allowing you to tailor your Legend to your playstyle.
This new feature will restart with each match, allowing you to try different upgrades. Earning EVO points will now level up your Legend throughout the game, improving your armor tier and unlocking unique upgrade selections at levels 2 and 3.
How to Earn Evo Points in Apex Legends Season 20
- Personal Gains
- Damage
- Knocks and Knock Assists
- Knocks against a legend of higher level will net an underdog XP bonus
- Finishers
- EVO Cache (Care Packages, Vaults, etc.)
- Team Gains
- Squad Wipes
- Revives
- Respawns
- Class Interactions (Survey Beacons, Ring Consoles, etc.)
- World Interactions (Wildlife, Trials Completions, etc.)
- EVO Harvesters
EVO Harvesters will randomly spawn on every BR map with a delayed activation during the first ring, allowing players time to loot up before seeking them out. Any squad member can interact with them to award a large amount of EVO points to the whole squad. Every team can interact with each EVO Harvester individually, as with Crafting Materials in previous seasons.
EVO Caches are a new rare loot item that will award a full level when collected. These EVO points go to your Legend personally!
Thus, when you get EVO points your Armor levels up and your Legend gets individual Upgrades to choose from. Below we will give examples of Upgrades to some Legends.
Mirage
Level 2: Players can receive Miracle Worker, which revives allies with health regen up to 75 HP or More Me, which allows players to gain an Ultimate Decoy; and reduce the cooldown by 30 seconds.
Level 3: Players can choose Bamboozle Bonus, which refreshes Tactical on successful Bamboozles. Or Me Two, which allows players to gain a Decoy charge (can have both active at once).
Mad Maggie
Level 2: Players can receive Fire Ball: Wrecking Ball catches fire and explodes in thermite. Or Shots Shots Shots, which allows players to Auto-Reload shotguns on knock.
Level 3: Players can choose Big Drill, which increases the depth and width of Tactical by 50%, or Drillslinger, which allows players to gain a Riot Drill charge; and reduce the active duration by 25%.
As you can see, each Legend received 4 new mini-abilities!
Apex Legends Season 20 New Mixtape Modes and Map
Every couple of weeks Apex Legends gets updated with new Limited Time Modes (LTM), which now have a separate tab in the menu that contains all currently available LTM’s, this is called “Mixtape.” This season, Mixtape received a new general map for different modes. The updated legendary arena “Thunderdome” became this map!
Thunderdome is playable for all mixtape game modes: Team Deathmatch, Gun Run, Control, and Lockdown. Moreover, Respawn added a new “Straight Shot” LTM this season:
- Players spawn above a random POI and skydive in, no Jumpmaster.
- Weapons spawn kitted at different rarities, streamlining loot.
- Reduced Lobby to 30 players and shorter rounds.
- Requeue with your party directly from the death screen.
Here Are Some Tips from Us for Those Who Read the Article to the End
- Let the teammate with the lowest EVO points and the worst Armor grab the EVO Cache.
- Carefully read the Upgrades for each Legend, you can do this in the menu between matches. Try different combinations or choose something that always suits your playstyle.
- If you are playing as a mobile Legend: Octane, Pathfinder, Revenant, Loba, Valkyrie, or Vantage, try to grab as many EVO Harvesters as possible.
- Don’t forget about the new Replicators to instantly craft some essential loot: Shield Battery, Medkit, Ammo, or Player Banners if your Squad has a Support Legend.
Conclusions
Let’s sum it up! In Apex Legends Season 20, Respawn tried to turn over the usual gameplay of Apex Legends and shake up the meta. They reworked the system of gaining Armor, added in-game Legends upgrades, and diversified the LTMs.
We really like that each player now always has level 1 armor at the start of the match. There are no situations now when you can’t defeat the enemy just because they were lucky enough to loot the Purple Armor immediately after the drop!
