Brutosaur returns to WoW for $90 in a shop. While some players love the idea and eagerly spend money to acquire the new Brutosaur, others are frustrated with Blizzard for reintroducing said mount into WoW retail. Let’s take a look at what’s going on.
What is the Brutosaur mount in WoW and why it is special
Blizzard introduced Mighty Caravan Brutosaur in BFA expansion, a mount with a mobile auction house and vendor. It was originally only available for 5 million gold price that didn’t have any discounts. Overall, many people liked this idea because it rewarded cunning and clever auctioneer players and gold farmers. However, the mount was later on removed for “health” reasons, which we will soon return to.
After it was removed, you could only acquire it on the Black Market on par with the other most expensive mounts in the game. This method was a journey on its own. Other than tracking the Brutosaur’s availability on the Black Market Auction House, you still need a lot of gold to outbid other players. First, Brutosaur was not a guaranteed find, because it only dropped from an Unclaimed Black Market Container. Secondly, a lot of people hunted Brutosaur and could easily make a bid that was capped with 9,999,999 gold. Thirdly, Unclaimed Black Market Container doesn’t even guarantee Brutosaur, and while other rewards are valuable on their own, Brutosaur was a really convenient mount.
Players welcome the re-release of Brutosaur
Not all players dislike this release. Some people like the new color scheme, and overall think that this reward fits WoW 20th Anniversary grand feeling. Other players have stated that you still can buy it without donating money to Blizzard using WoW tokens. It should also be noted that this release will allow new players, to get such a mount. Remember that using pay-for-gold logic this Brutosaur is a much better release in terms of price. Old Brutosaur price could easily cost over 600 dollars.
The price for Brutosaur varies in different regions, for example, in US servers it costs $90 USD, and in EU servers the cost is €78 EUR. Assuming that the current price in US servers for WoW tokens is 300k gold you will need 1.74 million gold to buy 6 WoW tokens. For EU servers where WoW token costs €13 you will need to buy 6 WoW tokens at the average price of 400k gold each, making it cost over 2 million gold. If you wanted to pay for WoW tokens during BFA you could easily give off over $500 USD (that’s 33 WoW tokens) if we assume the average WoW token price in BFA is 150.000. And if you were one of the mad ones who wanted to pay for this mount after its removal, you can easily double the price for it. Please note that the current WoW token price is unstable, so prices can easily change.
Others upset over Brutosaur’s return in WoW 20th anniversary
Time passed, and Brutosaur has long become a historical luxury and a sign of respect. That was, until Blizzard decided to make a Brutosaur Mount $90 release during the 20th WoW anniversary event. The reaction from people was almost instant. At first, many people couldn’t even believe this statement. The idea of re-releasing a once outstanding achievement for a player was absurd on the surface and even disrespectful to those players. Even more ridiculous was that the price of Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur Mount was $90, making it the most expensive mount ever available in a shop. As a cherry on top, this Brutosaur Mount $90 release while having a portable Auction House has a portable Mailbox, which makes it even better than the original version.
While technically, you could pay to buy the original Brutosaur while buying WoW Tokens, and it was even more expensive if you converted WoW tokens to real-life money, the idea of having such a mount in a game is absurd to many players. This precedent makes Blizzard seem extremely hypocritical, especially if you look back at Blizzard’s statement on the matter created in 2019.
In December 2019, Kaivax, the community manager, explained why Brutosaur was removed from being purchased. Brutosaur was too valuable for convenience usage, so there was no doubt that every player would want to have it in their collection. Therefore, in the potential future, the mount might only be available at steeply inflated gold prices.
A warm Christmas for Blizzard’s employees is incoming
Many players have joked that the mount will make a bank for Blizzard. And they were right, Brutosaur Mount $90 release is currently a top-rated buy, with lots of players purchasing it during the first hours of release. Blizzard has also stated that the Brutosaur Mount won’t be available in the shop forever, so you may need to make up your mind soon if you want to own yourself a $90 Brutosaur.
This is not Blizzard’s first use of the FOMO tactic to profit off players. And it marks the second time this year that they have introduced mounts with additional quality-of-life features. If you still remember, back in September, they added the Grizzly Hills Packmaster mount, which includes a repair and transmog vendor.
Many people are outraged by such mount additions, claiming that this is a pay-for-convenience buy that should not be available for purchasing, especially with real-life currency. It also removes exclusivity from people who bought this mount in BFA expansion. However, we should still remember that Blizzard while profiting from mount sales can make better games and projects for everyone.
With the re-release of the Brutosaur mount, the WoW token price has been inflated to 300k gold. We’ve got a tool to track WoW token price, so be sure to check it out.
