The Cathedral of Hatred — Emanations of Sanctuary is making waves across online platforms. For fans of the Heroes of the Storm community, it’s another sliver of hope that their favorite game is returning to the spotlight. According to Wowhead, they have caught glimpses of Mephisto throughout the video. There wouldn’t be much to discuss if this image didn’t come directly from the Lord of Hatred’s concept art in HotS.

The artwork in question was crafted over five years ago by Luke Mancini. The former Senior Artist’s creation was specifically for Mephisto’s introduction to Heroes of the Storm. Skeptics may say that this is just a coincidence. After all, the first expansion of Diablo IV is centered around Mephisto. So, images of him appearing in the video are nothing unusual, right? But perhaps there’s more to it than initially meets the eye.

If you still remember, there was a surprise Patch drop for HotS in October. Earlier, Phil Spencer also openly expressed interest in revisiting classic Activision Blizzard franchises. Other than that, game developers rarely add unnecessary details to their crafts without a reason. They have the resources to generate entirely new Mephisto arts. They can also reuse artworks from the Diablo series. They don’t really have any reason to choose the HotS concept art. So, considering all this, is it really just a coincidence?
