About WoW Cataclysm and WoW Cataclysm Classic

WoW Cataclysm release date was on December 7, 2010. 13 years ago, can you believe it? Being the third expansion to arrive in the World of Warcraft, it brought along plenty of big changes to the game. Despite being a controversial expansion to this day, the majority of WoW lovers can’t wait for its arrival in Classic.

And so, during BlizzCon 2023, the developers have unveiled the exciting news of the Deathwing-focused expansion. Cataclysm Classic will undoubtedly have some differences from its original iteration. However, familiar elements persist. For instance, the addition of Worgen and Goblin to the race roster. Besides that, you will also get to revisit the old dungeons and raids.

What to Do before Cataclysm Classic

#1: Level up Your Character

As Cataclysm arrives at WoW Classic, the level cap will increase to 85. Of course, it will be easier to level up when the next Classic expansion actually arrives. After all, the new leveling system will require less EXP to level up. However, you may still want to max out your characters now, especially given the currently active 50% experience-gaining buff in WotLK. This way, you can reach the new level cap more quickly when the time comes.

#2: Collect Transmogs

In Cataclysm Classic, your collection of transmogs will become account-wide. While it’s not an earth-shattering addition, it is important, especially for the fashionistas out there. Now, you have plenty of time to expand your wardrobe with rare and attractive cosmetics. If you haven’t already, now is the great time to get your hands on the Naxxramas, Ulduar, and Wrathful Gladiator’s Sets, or anything else that catches your eye.

#3: Max Out Your Profession

Maxing out your chosen profession will naturally allow you to earn money for various purposes. Moreover, Cataclysm Classic will introduce the crafting system, which will be a gigantic source of income for experienced professionals.

#4: Get The Swift Zulian Tiger Mount

10 Things to Do Before Cataclysm Classic: Get The Swift Zulian Tiger Mount

The Swift Zulian Tiger mount is a rare drop obtained from the High Priest Thekal—a boss in the WotLK Zul’Gurub raid. The mount has a 0.6% drop chance, so you may need to grind the boss for quite a while to get it. However, High Priest Thekal isn’t that hard to beat, and the tiger mount is definitely worth your time and effort. Not only it’s account-wide, but it’s also the only mount with a tiger model in the game. And to add, it’s the only chance for Horde players to own a feline ride.

So, if you want to add the Swift Zulian Tiger mount to your collection, act fast. Once Classic Cataclysm is released, the Zul’Gurub raid will become a five-person dungeon, and it will be impossible to get this peculiar tiger.

#5: Get The Swift Razzashi Raptor Mount

10 Things to Do Before Cataclysm Classic: Get The Swift Razzashi Raptor Mount

The Swift Razzashi Raptor mount is another limited drop obtainable from Zul’Gurub before Cataclysm. This time, Bloodlord Mandokir is the boss you need to address. The drop chance is slightly higher, at 0.96%. It’s also the only way for Alliance players to obtain a raptor mount.

#6: Get The Undying Title and The Immortal Title

The Undying title and The Immortal title are awarded to players who complete the 10-player and 25-player Naxxramas instances without a single party member perishing. That’s hard, of course. Even with full coordination, you can’t be immune to bad luck. In the original WoW, they were removed from the game when Ulduar dropped.

But in the Classic version of the game, the developers decided to leave them be until Cataclysm is released. Obtaining these titles is challenging, but you still have over eight months to conquer them.

#7: Accomplish the Glory of the Raider Achievements

Blizzard added a bunch of new achievements during WotLK. Among them, the challenges of the Glory of the Raider are particularly noteworthy.

Each of the three main dungeons—Naxxramas, The Eye of Eternity, and The Obsidian Sanctum—has one. There are two varieties for ten and 25-player instances. To attain them, you must complete a series of specialized challenges requiring all the players to beat a certain encounter within a time limit or never be hit by a lava splash.

Players will get the Reins of the Plagued Proto-Drake for the 10-player challenge and the Reins of the Black Proto-Drake for the 25-player one. Just like with the titles, now is a good time to finish these achievements because they won’t be around later.

#8: Finish Wrath of the Lich King

10 Things to Do Before Cataclysm Classic: Finish Wrath of the Lich King

For many players, Wrath of the Lich King is not done yet. There are still Icecrown Citadel and all the other dungeons and raids to beat. Also, don’t forget that the Shadowmourne and Val’anyr Legendaries are still up for grabs.

Right now, you may want to spend time with the Trial of the Crusader raid, which offers achievements that won’t be available later on. These include A Tribute to Skill, A Tribute to Mad Skill, and A Tribute to Insanity. You can get a neat mount for the Horde and Alliance for that last one. Meanwhile, don’t forget to finish the WotLK storyline. It will be a massive treat in terms of narrative.

#9: Gear Up for Shattering

The WoW pre-Cataclysm update brought a lot of curious changes. Among the most exciting at this time was the Shattering event. Originally, the event started about two weeks before the full release. During it, the realms were basically ravaged by elemental invasions, cultists, and the whole end-of-the-world theme. You really don’t want to miss it.

#10: Accomplish the Explorer and Loremaster Achievements

Lastly, you might consider completing the Explorer and Loremaster achievements now, before the world is massively expanded. The former demands that you explore most of the zones in the game world. The latter requires you to complete the majority of quests. With the release of Cataclysm Classic, this will become significantly harder.

It’s also possible that these achievements will be removed and added to Feats of Strength in Cataclysm.

Conclusion

With that being said, it doesn’t mean you have to push yourself to achieve all of the things listed above. You don’t really have to do anything to “properly” prepare for the new expansion. Just have fun and participate in the activities that bring you the most enjoyment. After all, gaming is for relaxation, having a good time, and enjoying what your favorite title has to offer!
