In this guide, we discuss how to obtain rare orbs like Exalted, Divine, etc. in Path of Exile 2. This includes various tips, strategies, tactics, places, and the most efficient methods in the current Patch 0.3.0.
What are orbs in PoE 2?

As mentioned, orbs are a currency actively used in-game to upgrade gear in many ways. Orbs include many different types, each having its unique functions.
- Orb of Transmutation. A common orb type upgrades a Normal item to Magic, adding 1 modifier.
- Orb of Augmentation. A common type of orb adds a random modifier to a Magic item.
- Orb of Alchemy. An uncommon type of orb. Upgrades a Normal item into a Rare one, adding 4 random modifiers.
- Regal Orb. An uncommon type of orb upgrades a Magic item into a Rare one, adding 1 modifier.
- Chaos Orb. A very uncommon type of orb removes a random modifier of a Rare item and adds another one.
- Vaal Orb. An uncommon type of orb applies one random change to the item. It corrupts it, preventing any other changes to it.
- Exalted Orb. An uncommon type of orb adds a random modifier to a Rare item.
- Divine Orb. A rare orb type randomizes the numerical values of modifiers on the items.
- Orb of Annulment. A very rare orb type that removes a random modifier on an item.
- Orb of Chance. A very rare type of orb turns a Normal item into a Unique of the same kind or destroys it.
- Jeweler’s Orbs. Create an additional support gem socket in a skill gem.
Of all these orbs, the orbs with the highest value are Exalted, Divine, Annulment, etc. The reason is that they are used to manipulate affixes of the gear of the best quality, Rare, to create BiS modifiers for them. With random chances involved, one requires many orbs if luck is not in one’s favor. Thus, creating a constant demand for these orbs.
Regarding exchange between players, it is usually done in Exalted and Divine orbs, turning them into valuable currency.
PoE 2 Orb farm guide

Endgame is where the need and the farm of orbs are. Due to the various forms of content you can run and mechanics, several methods exist to get your orbs.
Endgame map farm

Usually, when players are asked how to quickly farm desired orbs, the answer is “just do your maps”. And while this is true, what many fail to mention is that you shouldn’t do it mindlessly, hoping to hit the jackpot.
Instead, you should apply special modifiers via Tablets and Waystones to maximize the efficiency of your farm.
Tablets
Tablets are special items that are applied to completed Towers to, in turn, apply special effects to maps in the Tower’s area of control. Although Tablets themselves have innate effects, the prefixes are that matter in terms of farming.
Several prefixes affect the amount of loot we get. Below is the priority of the ones you need:
- Plundering. Increased Quantity of items found in your Maps.
- Collector’s. Increased Rarity of items found in your Maps.
- Brimming. Increased number of Rare monsters.
- Teeming. Increased number of Magic monsters.
- Breeding. Increased Pack size in your Maps.
Prefixes like Plundering or Collector’s are directly affecting your item drops. Quantity is the most crucial stat for farming orbs, as it increases your loot.
Prefixes like Brimming, Teeming, and Breeding affect monster rate. The Rare monsters usually turn into a jackpot on death, so the more monsters like this are in your maps, the better.
Each Tower can have up to 3 tablet slots. The number of slots affected by the number of modifiers on Waystone used to access the Tower.
- 0–2 modifiers grant 1 slot.
- 3–5 modifiers grant 2 slots.
- 6+ modifiers grant 3 slots.
The tier of Waystone used also affects the Tablets, increasing their innate effects. Since tablets modify maps with extra content, like Rituals, Expeditions, Breaches, etc., the Tier of the used Waystone increases the number of maps modified.
Using orbs, you can affect modifiers on your Tablets and Waystones.
Towers
Although we mentioned Towers above, there are some things you need to keep in mind.
When you meet the Tower on your way, the goal is to create 3 slots and fill them with Tablets with prefixes that affect loot drop rates. That way, you will make a zone that has significantly improved farm speed.
However, there is a way to push those effects even further. The thing is, Tower’s zones of influence can overlap. That means 2 or even 3 Towers will apply all their bonuses to maps in the area where their influence meets.
To boost your farm further, you should aim to make the maps in the affected area Cleansed. You must complete Corrupted Nexus in the zone of influence to do so. Cleansing the map increases currency drop rates.
Ideal setups for the farm are:
- 2 Towers + Cleansed area
- 3 Tower
If you get lucky, you may get a 3 Tower + Cleansed setup, but chances are extremely low.
Waystones
Of course, Waystones are the main way to affect the maps themselves. In a 0.3.0 update, the way affixes for Waystones work was changed. Now, both prefixes and suffixes apply adverse effects to your Waystone. But the more modifiers you have, the higher the bonuses you receive. These bonuses include old prefixes’ effects, such as item Rarity, number of Rare monsters, Magic monsters, etc.
Sadly, Quantity is not an effect you can get on the Waystone, making item Rarity and Rare monster amount the most valuable of possible bonuses.
To make the most out of your Waystones, you should aim for a Waystone with 6 modifiers, with a high item Rarity bonus. You can affect your Waystones with orbs, such as Exalted Orb, Alchemy Orb, Chaos Orb, etc.
Some interactions can further improve your farming via Waystones.
- Liquid Paranoia. A Liquid Emotion item applies a stacking 15% increase in Rare monster amount to the Waystone. Adding 3 of these to the Waystone raises the amount by 45%, but be aware that applying Liquid Emotions makes maps harder.
- Omen of Chaotic + Chaos Orb. New Omen added in the 0.3.0 update, Omen of Chaotic makes it so that the next Chaos Orb used on Waystone turns all the bonuses into item Rarity. If your Waystone has a low item Rarity bonus, you can use such a combination to change that.
- Vaal Orb. Suppose your Waystone has a high innate item Rarity bonus. In that case, you can push the effect of the Waystone further by corrupting it with a Vaal Orb. Doing so adds an extra modifier and improves bonuses, but be aware that you won’t be able to change corrupted Waystone after that.
Of course, while traveling around to find a perfect spot to set up a farm, you should use other Waystones to get around, saving good ones for the farm later.
With the Get out of my Head! passive from Atlas, have a chance to get a Waystone with the Delirium effect applied to it when clearing a map. Such Waystones are perfect for travel, providing decent currency rewards.
If you have the Grand Project Precursor Tablet, you can use it in a Tower to travel to any map in the zone of influence. This way, you can easily reach other places without going through connected maps.
Atlas

Atlas applies its effects directly to various elements of the endgame. There are different Atlas setups, but the general idea is to get nodes that affect your Tablets, Item Quantity, Rare items chance, and Rare monster amount.
Currently, Atlas nodes are the only other source of Quantity stat aside from Tablets, and this stat gives the farm the most significant boost. So getting nodes that affect Quantity and Tablet effects should be your priority. You can follow those up with a Rare monster spawn or a Rare item chance.
To get points for your Atlas, you need:
- Clear Corrupted Nexus. Clear one grants a tome that awards you with 5 skill points for your Atlas. You can get up to 30 points that way.
- Complete Unique maps. These maps are indicated by the special symbol next to them. Completing a unique map grants 2 skill points for your Atlas. You can get up to 10 points that way.
You can check the PoE 2 planner for the recommended Atlas build.
Now that we have figured everything out, here is a summary.
- Create 3 slots in Towers with overlapping zones of influence. Fill those slots with Tablets that increase Quantity, Rare Item chance, and Rare monster amount bonuses.
- Use Waystones with high Rare Item chances, at least with a +100% bonus. Use Omen of Chaotic and Chaos Orb to raise that bonus. Use liquid Paranoia to increase the amount of the Rare monster bonus.
- Pick Quantity, Tablets, item Rarity, and Rare monster amount nodes in your Atlas.
Following these lines allows you to set up the main bulk of your farm. But there are some alternatives to that.
Trials of Chaos

Buying Ultimatums allows you to run Trials of Chaos that net various rewards. The most important are the special Masks you receive for completing your trials. Other essential rewards are Runes and unique Soul Cores, which are used to upgrade one’s equipment.
How does this relate to orbs? You can exchange those items for orbs, mostly Exalted. Depending on the prices and situation, one Ultimatum, which costs about 1 Exalted orb, can turn into 70+ Exalted orbs by completing the Trials. It may be tempting to use Masks yourself, but it is a safer bet to sell them, rather than test your luck.
Endgame mechanics

All the maps have chances for different mechanics to appear, while Tablets applied to Towers increase these chances. Though all those mechanics serve as an extra challenge that nets additional rewards, if we combine all the pros and cons, there are some that are better than the others.
Breach
Simple and the most effective one. As you start the Breach, waves of monsters run at you until you or all of them die. Many extra Rare enemies spawn that way, resulting in bigger rewards.
Ritual
Special circles on your map require you to clear nearby enemies first. Activating the Ritual revives all the enemies so you can defeat them again. This awards you with a Tribute that can be exchanged for rewards. The most valuable ones are various Omens used in crafting to control RNG. These can cost a lot depending on the type of drop.
There are some tips to get the maximum out of the Ritual.
- Use Defer on items that are too expensive or you don’t mind getting in the end, in case nothing good drops. Defer locks the selected item, guaranteeing it will appear in the next Ritual at a lower price.
- Make sure to spend your Tribute as it does not transfer to another map.
- If they appear, save at least 1000 Tribute to buy the most expensive items.
- Don’t be afraid to use Reroll, since the range of possible rewards is pretty big.
- Specific rewards hold high value, so you should get them if you see them. That includes Omens, such as Sinistral Annulment, Sinistral Erasure, Greater Annulment, Dextral Annulment, Dextral Erasure, Whittling, Divine Orb, and Mirror of Kalandra.
Delirium

Like the Breach, Delirium is the mechanic that spawns a cloud of mist slowly moving through the map, empowering enemies and spawning additional ones. However, you are on the timer, meaning you must follow the fog before it dissipates to make the most out of it.
Aside from increased opportunities to spawn Rare enemies, Delirium also drops Liquid Emotions. As mentioned above, Liquid Paranoia is extremely good for farming, as it increases the number of Rare enemies that spawn.
