Baldur’s Gate live-action and Stray are not the only video game adaptations brewing. Netflix is bringing Devil May Cry to the silver screen. And Castlevania’s Adi Shankar is its Showrunner and Executive Producer.

Netflix has revealed plans to bring the devil-hunting series to life in an animated adaptation. Clocking in at a brief 45 seconds, its announcement trailer has set fans abuzz with excitement. The fierce soundtrack. The striking visual. Dante’s cocky attitude and lax demeanor in the face of danger. His wild yet stylish combat techniques. Everything has perfectly captured the essence of Capcom’s famous hack-and-slash title.

The anime will have eight episodes. Studio MIR, known for working on popular shows like The Legend of Korra and The Boondocks, will produce it. Adi Shankar steered the Castlevania ship to its triumphant success. And now, he’s taking up the helm as DMC’s Executive Producer and Showrunner. In addition, the talented Alex Larsen, known for Yasuke, takes charge of the writing.

Based on the trailer, the adaptation appears to draw substantial inspiration from Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening. It focuses on Dante’s early years as he grapples with a demonic invasion of Earth. And, eventually, confronts his own brother, Vergil.

As of now, there has yet to be any information about the series’s release date. So fans will have to exercise their patience a bit longer.
