Table of Contents
For 2024, Valorant Champions is coming to Korea. From August 1 to August 25, the competition will determine the best team in Valorant. This time, the tournament features some changes, and many new teams are entering the contest.
Valorant Champions 2024 Qualification Process
Valorant Champions 2024, 16 teams will compete in the tournament. To ensure fairness, teams from different regions must qualify within their region. Each area has four slots available. The first, second, and third places from Stage 2 qualify automatically. The fourth slot is given to the team with the highest overall points.
Points are awarded to winning teams, with more important matches earning more points. After all the matches are played, a table is created. The team with the most points that didn’t qualify automatically secures the fourth slot through this point system.
Here is the list of qualified teams by region:
- Americas – Leviathan, G2 Esports, KRÜ Esports and Sentinels
- Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) – Fnatic, Team Vitality, Team Heretics, and FUT Esports
- Pacific – Gen.G, DRX, Paper Rex and Talon Esports
China – Edward Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, Trace Esports, and Bilibili Gaming
Only eight out of sixteen teams from the previous tournament qualified for Valorant Champions 2024. No previous champion teams are present in this year’s tournament. This makes Paper Rex, the runners-up from Valorant Champions 2023, the highest-ranking team among the qualifiers.
Valorant Champions 2024 main tournament
Group stage
The tournament will start with the group stage. The teams will be divided into Four groups with one rule: teams from the same region can’t be together in a group.
Two games will be held simultaneously, and the winners will advance while the losers play an Elimination match. The winner of the Elimination match will then compete against the loser of the Winner’s match. The winner of this match will qualify for the next stage of the tournament together with the winner of the Winner’s match.
Playoff stage
The Eight remaining teams will move to the playoff stage. The system is quite close to the Group stage as the losing teams go into the lower part of the bracket and try not to get eliminated. After all the matches are finished the winners of the upper and lower parts of the brackets face each other in the Grand finals.
This tournament format might be unusual for those unfamiliar with Esports, as it allows a team to lose a match and still make a comeback. For instance, last year’s champions, Evil Geniuses, were defeated by Paper Rex in the upper finals but staged a comeback by winning the lower semi-finals. This format creates compelling stories for underdog teams.
