Indie Prize Telaviv

In 2016, the Indie Prize visited many places and even small countries like Israel. We decided to cover this country in our article, as this is a very remarkable event for game events and an important moment for showing that they are needed in our world. Sponsors also did not lose interest and supported holding the Indie Prize in Tel-Aviv, for which we can thank Crazy Labs, Mobco, Unity, and Amazon. Let’s take a look at what titles were shown there!

Layers of Fear: Artistry of Horror

Bloober Team’s “Layers of Fear” is a first-person psychedelic horror game that ingeniously weaves a complex narrative within an ever-evolving Victorian-era mansion. As an unstable painter on a quest to create his magnum opus, players traverse the mansion’s shifting corridors, uncovering the layers of the protagonist’s dark past.

“Layers of Fear” stands out for its intensely atmospheric gameplay, rich visual storytelling, and psychological depth, providing a horror experience like no other. It won the Audience Award at Indie Prize 2016, solidifying its reputation as an innovative and gripping indie project. To date, Bloober Team, the studio behind this game, is known for many horror titles and is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2.

Train Valley: Locomotive Logistics

“Train Valley,” as we mentioned earlier in an article about the Indie Prize at Belgrade, is a captivating train tycoon puzzle game. Players are tasked with building an efficient rail network across various landscapes, carefully managing resources to keep their railways running smoothly. This Flazm creation is known for its charming aesthetics, complex puzzle design, and real-time strategy elements. Its unique combination of mechanics and visually pleasing art style earned it a nomination at the Indie Prize 2016 again.

Karma. Incarnation 1: A Philosophical Journey

“Karma. Incarnation 1” by AuraLab is an adventurous exploration into philosophical ideas, told through the lens of a point-and-click puzzle game. The game presents the concept of karma in a fresh light, weaving a story of love and consequences through the journey of a creature named Pip. The game’s surreal hand-drawn art style, intricate animation, and thought-provoking narrative create a unique gaming experience. It won the “Best Art” award at Indie Prize 2016, underscoring the quality of its visual storytelling.

Party Hard: Stealth and Strategy in Celebration

Pinokl Games’ “Party Hard” again appeared in the Indie Prize and was again nominated in several categories. If you don’t know, this game offers a unique spin on the stealth genre, casting players as annoying neighbors trying to end a series of parties — by any means necessary. “Party Hard” is celebrated for its pixel-art design, dynamic environments, and catchy soundtrack. Its combination of strategy, stealth, and dark humor creates a unique and entertaining gameplay experience.

Scrap Garden: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure

“Scrap Garden” by Flazm is a charming adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic world where players control a lone robot named Canny. The game combines elements of exploration, puzzle-solving, and platforming to provide a heartwarming and memorable gaming experience. “Scrap Garden” shines with its unique blend of gameplay elements, adorable protagonist, and the beautiful yet melancholy world. Its achievements include several nominations at the Indie Prize 2016.

Concluding the Indie Exploration

These five games, each with their distinctive attributes and gameplay mechanics, exemplify the creative heights that indie developers are reaching. Whether it’s the haunting layers of “Layers of Fear,” the engaging logistics of “Train Valley,” the philosophical depths of “Karma. Incarnation 1”, the stealthy festivities of “Party Hard,” or the endearing journey in “Scrap Garden,” each offers an experience that’s uniquely their own.

The Indie Prize participation of these titles is proof of the recognition and support that indie games are receiving in the gaming industry. Through this recognition, these games have not only showcased their individual brilliance but also furthered the importance of indie gaming in the broader gaming landscape.
