Diablo 4 Patch 1.1.0 Leads to New Review Bombing on Metacritic

It’s been just over a month since Diablo 4 release, and the first season is set to launch this week. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the new content in the game, but something terrible happened — Patch 1.1.0. It seemed like a regular update, but it completely changed the balance and player progression, leading to another wave of hate on Metacritic.
Why Diablo 4 is Bad Again?
Patch 1.1.0 introduced too many changes to the in-game structure of Diablo 4. For instance, it became much harder for beginners to level up. Previously, experienced and leveled-up gamers could assist new players in leveling by guiding them through a challenging level 100 dungeons. As a result, a level 1 player could gain a lot of experience and level up significantly by soaking experience from a level 100 boss. The new patch changed the experience gain logic, making it 6 times slower. Now, a beginner gets almost the same experience as they would get from from a boss of the same level as the themselves.
Others were upset that Blizzard completely ruined the buildcrafting by nerfing various stats on characters and loot. Sorcerers and Necromancers, in particular, were looking forward to the latest patch. They rely on the same builds (for example, Sorcerer’s Frost Nova or Necromancer’s Bone Spear) due to weak or useless skills, which limit players’ creativity. However, Blizzard addressed this by nerfing their builds and armor, making these classes weaker and less resilient in endgame content. Sorcerer fans were even more outraged when they found out that of their new unique items simply teleports them to random places. Amid this, a devastating meme was published on Reddit, highlighting the burying of this class:
There was also some bizarre and seemingly pointless change. For some reason, the teleportation time from dungeons has been increased by a few seconds. No one knows why Blizzard made this change, as no one complained about fast teleports. Nonetheless, players now have to wait 5-6 seconds just for the teleport to work. And, well, the main issue with the patch: no valuable buffs. Everything in Diablo 4 has worsened. The builds have been downgraded, the Action RPG gameplay has become incredibly slow, and all the classes have gotten much weaker with reduced damage resistance and other defensive and offensive skills and buffs weakened, making Nightmare Tier 80 almost impossible to pass. All the hard work, sleepless nights, and grinding by fans before the patch has been been near-worthless because of the nerfs and without even offering good alternatives. Fans hoped Blizzard would address genuinely important issues, such as the lack of storage space, useful minion builds for Necromancer, and the dull gameplay for the unleveled heroes. Unfortunately, none of this has been improved.
All these issues are currently being described on Metacritic, where Diablo 4’s overall score from players has plummeted to a mere 2.6 with reviews from more than 5400 users. It’s that bad.
What’s Next for Diablo 4?
All hope rests on the first season, which could repair ongoing nightmare, or the developers themselves reconsider their decisions. Many professional players think that new gems should significantly boost classes and strengthen them in endgame activities. Moreover, such negative feedback from gamers should make developers rethink and revert many changes.
The Diablo 4 community is currently at a critical moment. If Blizzard fails to listen to their fanbase, a significant portion of the playerbase may simply abandon the project, leading to its stagnation.
