The mobile game Destiny Rising is still in development

Over the years, Bungie has developed many projects. One of these projects was the mobile Destiny game, which would be developed with the Chinese developer NetEase. However, many projects have been canceled due to recent massive layoffs at Bungie.

In the announcement of the layoffs, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said that new projects had been either canceled or moved to a new company under Sony. Later, news came that Destiny 2 would not see significant future Expansions like The Final Shape. The layoffs also caused Destiny 3 to be shelved.

Is the Destiny mobile game canceled?

With all the news, it is not impossible to assume that a mobile Destiny game will also be canceled. However, Kurakasis, an established Bungie insider, revealed that the game has not been canceled and is being developed. They also revealed the name of the game — Destiny Rising.

What is Destiny Rising?

Destiny Rising is a Mobile game in the Destiny franchise. Bungie and NetEase, a Chinese game developer, are developing it together. It is safe to assume that the game will be related to Destiny 2 but will be a separate title from it. It must also be significantly smaller than Destiny 2 to fit in mobile devices. The game can also take turns for more PvP-focused content, maybe a Gacha game or something like CoD Mobile.

NetEase is a well-established company in China, but it only recently became known for its upcoming projects like Marvel Rivals or Project Mugen. The company has a bad reputation in the Gacha game community due to its ridiculous monetary policies. However, despite the criticism, the company had its fair share of successful games. One of the most popular ones is Diablo Immortal, a mobile Diablo game developed by NetEase with Blizzard, which is still making tons of money for them.

NetEase is probably more involved in the game development, while Bungie is only a supervisor. If most of the work is on NetEase, this may explain why the game was not affected by the recent Bungie layoffs.

Unfortunately, we can only speculate about it now as no official announcement has occurred. However, the possibility of the new game being developed indicates that the franchise is not dying yet.
