President and COO Daniel Alegre is leaving Activision Blizzard
Daniel Alegre will leave the publisher of Call of Duty when his contract expires on March 31, 2023. His decision comes less than three years after replacing Coddy Johnson. He was Activision’s previous Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Alegre spent 16 years working for Google. He contributed a lot to the development of the Internet giant and accumulated exceptional achievements. Hence, Activision spent more than $10 million to recruit him to their team. In 2020, he joined the company. He has witnessed many significant changes, ups and downs, and even scandalous events during his time there.
Over the past two years, Activision Blizzard has been involved in legal disputes. Various government organizations are watching them. Mainly because of the scandals in their working environment and Microsoft’s deal. After all, in January, Microsoft agreed to buy the company, its IP, and its developers for more than $68 billion. As of now, the FTC and the European Commission have halted the deal. They want to investigate further about the acquisition. Despite many concerns, both Activision Blizzard and Microsoft have affirmed the exchange will end in June 2023. The company is also currently trying to reach an agreement with PlayStation about Call of Duty’s future.
The outgoing COO now wants to find new opportunities in the field of blockchain. On his Twitter, he tweeted about joining Yuga Labs.
The startup is the creator of the NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club. Its current CEO, Nicole Muniz, is stepping back to be an advisor once Alegre takes up his role this March.
The question of who will be his replacement is still in need of an answer. But, there has yet to be any information about the matter.
